Imus' Racial Remarks

What do you think should happen to him? I'm all for free speech, but this went way overboard. I think he's losing it. Fire his *** for good.

People in this area know about him and I think everyone knows the name Rutgers. He is the "media" and that is why the "media" picked up on it.

There is a difference. Imus is a Left leaning shock jock, the topic was the Rutgers team, his statement was clearly and undeniably pointed at them.

The Kerry remark was an accidental stumble with which the opposition could make political hay just days before an election.
The Great Unwashed swallowed it with much help from the Right and that's fine, politics is politics.

1. NO politician is going to cut his own throat with such a remark.
2. He at first refused to apologise as his words had two interpretations and that is his own fault.
3. He was in the middle of a series of one-liners at a political rally, it always looks best to appear to speak off the cuff rather than looking at the notes prepared for him, especially 'comedy', and that was his downfall.

Here is what was written for him:
"Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."

Here is what came out of his mouth:
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq."

It was Gold for the Right just days before the '06 election.
I don't fault them one bit.
Can't forgive McCain though. I had at least considered him a man of integrity even if his policies sucked. He was given multiple oppurtunites to support his 'friend' and instead he piled on.

IMUS made an ignorrant remark and now has to deal with the conciquenses, had he said all women basketball players are butch he wouldn't be in the heap of crap he is now since he singles out rutgers, he's entitled to his free speech... as he will not be arrested or face jail time obviously, but his employer and sponsers also have the right to terminate his employment/sponsership at any time without reason, we also have the free will to not give a damn...

So he wasn't really saying anything bad about anyone.

He's just stupid.

People need to GTF over themselves and stop being so damn 'offended' whenever someone says something they don't like. Imus is an old babbling fool, but this PC culture has run amok.

So he wasn't really saying anything bad about anyone.

He's just stupid.
Whoever handed him that grenade didn't consider he might pull the pin and forget to throw.

No mention of 'Bush' screwed him.
Changing the (don't and aren't) voice to positive voice screwed him.
Too much wind up and no punch line really screwed him.

There was a thread title here yesterday that gave me paws.

I can not be silent

Does that really mean the same thing as, 'I cannot be silent'?

I don't think so.

Damn, not here too...

Well, it's easy to "not give a damn" or to "get over it" when it's not derrogative towards your race. Majority mindset... In some ways, that was worse than saying "N*gger". Nappy headed ho's is a phrase- that required some thought... Not a one word slip-up.

There was nothing cool about "Nappy headed ho's", not if it was directed at a person, or group of people.

While I thought it was funny/shocking, to hear it. But after seeing the girls, they weren't nappy headed. The shock value was right where he wanted it to be. Now, there are consequences... If you're big enough to say it, be big enough to deal with the consequences.

Besides, if Imus has been on the air for 30 years, I'm sure he's stinky rich any way. He won't miss any meals.

You have a right to free speech, absolutely. But, you will also pay a price for a big mouth. Sometimes you end up fired, sometimes you get fined, sometimes you end up with a fist in it. Imus, so far, has gotten lucky.

But, after looking at his head, he didn't have a lot of room to talk about anyone's hair...
