On a side note... Someone decided that now is the perfect time to break in his house. My parents are divorced and Dad lives in a house by himself so there was no one there to deter someone from doing what they did.
I will try to do updates as there are changes, but as of now it is pretty much the same.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers,
Jeremy
Well, we are 9 days post surgery and there are still no major changes. At least nothing that affects what the doctor is saying. Dad has been moved to a regular room and is receiving tube feeds. He had a trach put in and is still breathing on his own. The doctor is still saying that the prognosis is not good. I think they are trying to get him out of the hospital because they asked us to start thinking about what we would like to do after the hospital stay. At this point, we are thinking that he will probably be in a nursing home for at least some time, but we also have to decide his DNR status. This is something that he never discussed and the decision for this is being thrust upon my brother and myself.
This has been a very tough time for myself and my family and I appreciate all that my friends and family have done. This includes all of the General Discussion crew here at F150online.com.
I am sure that whatever happens to my father will be God's will and we have to accept that decision whether we like it or not. I will say that it is very hard to see my father in what seems like a peaceful sleep that I can't wake him from. Knowing he is still alive, but non-responsive is very tough to deal with. Also, every single day that goes by without him waking up decreases the likelihood that he will be able to fully recover.
I am sorry if this is depressing to anyone, but this is the reality of my life right now.

More prayers sent. Even though it must be very hard to do, you and your family need to stay strong and talk to your Dad and encourage him to fight this even if you think he can't hear you. Read him a story, or his favorite magazine. Play cards with him, anything. You might talk to him about things you and he did together while you were growing up? It might stimulate something in his brain and he might open his eyes. I couldn't begin to imagine how frustrating and heart-wrenching this must be for you and your family. All you can do is keep the faith and believe he will pull through this. I've never been through this with a member of my own family, but I know it might happen one day. You can only do so much, and the rest is in the Lord's hands. But you can't say you weren't there by his side fighting the good fight. I'll be praying for him, and you, and all his family and friends. God bless you.
