go onto a Toyota forum, and you will see just like Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan, etc.. that Toyota's have just as many problems as every other car maker in the world.
AND.. Ford has better quality now then Mercedes do.

My 03 Screw is Ford #6 for me, and I've had good luck with all of them, but none have been problem free.
My wife on the other hand drives a 98 Camry with 114K miles on it. It has been to the shop exactly one time, and that was to have upper strut mounts put on. I would never buy a Toyota truck because I find them ugly, but any clown who says they are pieces of crap, don't last or won't hold up to abuse better than most Big 3 choices, needs to take the blinders off.
I know I'll hear the argument=When's the last time you saw a 25 year old Jap truck driving around? Here? Truthfully? I haven't, but if you were to visit a place where the locals grew up with these vehicles, you'd see old Jap stuff trucking along just like 50's Detroit iron in Cuba. If you've ever wondered where all the old proven vehicles go, take a trip to Peru, or Venezuela or southern Mexico. You'll see so many old cars, trucks and motorcycles you'll swear you stepped back in time.
I hate to break the news, but we don't make the best stuff anymore. We used to, but that time is gone.

any car or truck, any name brand should have NO problem what so ever going to 200K. These new cars these days last forever no matter what brand. I mean even my old beater first car of a 1988 Chevy Caviler lasted to 216K miles before it died, and that was an old beat up cheap car.
cars and trucks these days should last way over 300K miles.

I just find it plain hilarious that anyone decides to either completely endorse, or right off a brand based on handful (or fewer) personal experiences.
Ever take a statistics class? Anyone? If you did you might realize how incredibly stupid that type of logic really is.
The truth of the matter is, when it really comes down to it, it's a matter of getting lucky or unlucky with the specific vehicle you buy. One could be perfect till the day you die, and that SAME model, different VIN could be a disaster on wheels. That's why you can use some lame personal experience from one to a few vehicles to determine the qaulity of an entire company.
that is all.

The ratio of "I'm happy with it", "It's been a great car", "I'll never buy anything but a _____ again" comments were conservatively 25:1 between Jap and Big 3 owners.
I gotta tell ya, when I was young it used to **** me off like nobody's business. All the time, my Honda this , my Toyota that, my Nissan this, it never seemed to stop. Heard the exact opposite about domestics, and that pissed me off too. "This POS is broken down again, blah blah blah". I can't tell you how many sob stories I heard about starting and charging system failures on GM, Ford and Chryslers vehicles. People bitching, cussing, "When this MF is fixed I'm trading it in on a _____ (any Jap car)", etc.
Now? I understand completely. My wifes Camry is perfect for her, as she doesn't know jacksquat about roadside repair, and doesn't need to. Will I ever buy one for myself? No, but she will, guaranteed, and she'll get my blessing.
BTW, I'm not writing off domestics. My truck has been perfect, but I know that many of them haven't. Can you say underhood fire? That kind of thing should've been caught and fixed much, much sooner than it was. Didn't it take years of cases before a recall was issued? How about the Aerostar under dash fires from the ignition switch?
I mean come on, Toyota recalled a half a million Camrys back in '92 when they had a problem with the electric door locks. Door locks? BFD. Truck burning to the ground? Nope, let's wait for more data. That how they beat us guys, they give a crap about how they make their cars. We just want more overtime.
I will continue to stick with Fords, but if I get stuck with a lemon one day, who knows. Those Saturn Sky's look like fun for a second car/garage queen.

After owning five GM cars and all of them having constant problems, I don't buy GM. Not that they are bad cars, obviously they make decent cars otherwise they wouldn't still be around. On the reverse side me and the wife have owned six Fords and have had few problems with any of them. The one we've had the most problems with is my truck and the list is: radius arm bushing 2x's (I bought cheap the first time), oil pan gasket leaking, freeze plug leaking and that about sums it up.
The point is I choose not to buy GM because they have always been problems for me. The Fords have always been good. Many have gone over 300,000 miles. The one Nissan I owned, and beat to crap, was reliable also. The person I sold it to said it lasted another four years after he bought it, making it 15 years old when it finally died. I don't think that is too bad considering how I treated it.
