measured data is imperical and can be analysed (sp). crunched and re-crunched to provide a substanciated conclusion.
what you see is subjective. what you see and what i see are different. i'll wait for the official crash test.

quoting the above link"While the Smart car's unibody stays together admirably, it sure gets tossed around…"

Getting tossed around is the key to its safety.Think of parachuting,do you want to hit the ground tucked into the cannonball position or do you want to tuck and roll?

Completely different. Going from 70mph and then slammed in reverse to 5mph is much worse, just multiply's the g's sustained. The front end of the smart car has very little crunch mass, brings you to a stop in a heartbeat. The front end of a typical vehicle however will absorb a good amount of the impact and slow you down at a gradual decent as it crunches.

Josiah,
You are so right. After seeing the vid w/ the smart car going in the reverse direction after impact,I thought of editing my previous post.Tho like others have sed, until the U.S. tests this go kart,we wont know for sure how it stacks up to everything on our roads.

but no one knows if the extra g-force in itself would be enough to cause greater injury considering there was no major trauma to the passengers...hmmmmmmm

I can't believe those limey's didn't eat this thing up, it reeks european "style." On a serious note, I cannot see these being a hit here either.

Exactly.....Almost all of the impact is absorbed by the occupants....There is no doubt that it has a nice strong cage...But when the occupants take almost 100% of the impact or at least a large impact thats another story....(Dale Earnhardt)

Read another article from highway saftey that stated

"The smaller the car the more death per accident ratio" Also read that the car only has a 3 star rating on the European standard.....Don't know if that is better or worse compared to the U.S. but not a great score either way....

I noticed that in all of these videos, the side windows are open each time.....What it means, I don't know???...But unusual non-the-less......

Companies wouldn't stage something like that to make it more favorable.....Would they???
