Exactly why is this a smart car???

Kia or Hyundia can put you in a nicer car for about 5000-6000 less.

That's probably Canadian Dollars.

DC announced it would be below 15K

Still not cheap.

But if you buy this thing you buy something unique and that is a statement.

That's for some, not for others.

I can see this being a BIG hit in The People's Republic of Santa Monica (where at any given time if you drive through Santa Monica, every tenth car is a Prius . . . seriously, you can't drive more than a couple miles without passing at least 25 Priuses (plural for Prius? Prii?). It will also be a big hit in the heavily congested cities where a premium is placed on style and show. It will be the "IT" car in Lost Angeles for sure.

It's all good.

death trap.
people inside won't feel too smart once they get flattened by a semi.

i would not drive one or let my wife and kids drive one. i don't care if it gets 60mpg. gas is gas. its made to be used. (and its soon to be a mute point with E85 coming)

montgomery gentry - i'll do my thing, you do yours.... "i'm not sacrificing my families safety to save on a little gas"

I doubt getting creamed by a semi in a major metropolitan area is high on the concerns list, or if it is I'm sure its way below "Find a parking space". If I lived in the city, and needed such transportation I "might" consider one. I would probably not ever take it on any road over 45 mph though... and a face lift wouldn't hurt. It looks like an ugly bug with a really bad under-bite...

although, what's the current exchange rate with Canada. Those prices still seem quite high for this little boogar. You know, I'd probably still rather have a bike, pedal or gas...

I'd just buy a golf cart if I was in the market for something like a smart car. It'd make more sense anyway because you can't drive three feet in LA, or other big cities where this car would be useful without stopping. And they look exactly like a golf cart. So why waste gas? Y'all need battery power!

Nope:

When Dad decided he did not need a big car anymore, he went and bought a diesel Bug 5sp…too long a story for here, but hey, it is what he wanted.

With that, he can push 50mpg…. He does have to work at it, and I hate being behind him as he coast up to each light, but that is his idea of fun now. For 10mpg less, I’ll take the Bug: leather, heated seats, cd, sun roof, AC, cruise and it is the only car or truck that I don’t automatically put the seat all the way back. Add to that full airbags, including side and while being t-boned by a F350 would still squash it, getting hit by other cars at least you would have a chance.

Woof
