SMART to the U.S.

Cool.

They're bringing Smart cars to the US.

You country kids probably don't care (although you could probably fit one in the bed of the truck).

For the city kids, yup . . . a "must hav".

In Lost Angeles they would be very welcome (and will probably be a hit). There are plenty in Paris, and I never tire of seeing them. Plus, these days, pulling close to 60 MPG on the highway (something like 47 city, e.g. sitting in traffic), without the B.S. hybrid technology, that's a good thing.

Also cool, you can change the panels in a snap . . . different color car each day of the week!

I think they are probably dangerous.. not trading anytime soone...

DC just announced today. They totally dropped the ball on this one. They should have brought it out 5 years ago when they first planned to.

I don't think the US site is up yet. They have been selling it in Canada (and about 40 other countries) but in Canada it's turbo deisel only. I don't thinkt the US version will be that way.

DC announced that it will be under 15K.

Smart has never made a profit (though they claim they will this quarter). It's gonna be tough for them do to the weak dollar. Hopefully they will survive here.

In Europe they have some show rooms that are like giant vending machines, with cars already made in towers of glass that revolve. Press a button of the car you like and it is brought down to you. That will never sell here, but it is unique!

They have three models, the fortwo (which seats two) the forfour (you figure it out) and a little sports car. They are canceling the forfour and the sports cars.

You can check out their Canadian website:

Yeah, you're not going to be setting any land speed records in this thing. My guess is the sewing machine sounds is just that, a sewing machine, because that's just about the size of the engine.

It's a city car only, without a doubt.

It is fun looking though.

I like it for the novelty. Would I buy one? Probably not. (However the GF wants one).

It means that I can't type.

canceling

(British varient (which is how I often spell things . . . long story) would have two"l"s by the way, cancelling. I left out a "c".)

40 HP??????

Its bare bones model is almost $18,000 ???

Exactly why is this a smart car???

Kia or Hyundia can put you in a nicer car for about 5000-6000 less.
