Many on this board eat the crap that says an F-150 can tow 9,900 lbs; but they don't pay homage to the fact that the only F-150 that can tow that much is the regulr cab long-bed variant; not the posh FX4 SuperCrew, XLT SuperCrew, King Ranch SuperCrew, none of the 4x4's and none of the SuperCabs.

If you believe the 300 HP 5.4L triton can tow 9,900 lbs, why is it impossible that the 305 HP 5.4L Endurance can tow 9,500 or that the Tundra (Knowing what the competition can do) comes out with a 5.7L with an estimated 300 HP (It could be 330 for all we know), a 6-speed tranny, far more R&D money than any other manufacturer, and an unspecificed amount of torque, can tow 100 pounds more than an F-150.

Closing your eyes and hoping it's not true won't change the fact that Ford has competition; viable competition, in the truck market. Call the Titan ugly all you want, there are at least 12 of them in my parking lot right now, next to about 30 F-150's, and maybe 15-16 Tundras- but you see my point... (People are buying them).

They are not junk, they'll hold their resale value better than our trucks, and they'll probably still be running 20 years from now; if previous Toyota history is any indication.

Put the cross and the holy water down; the Yota's are here to stay.
Well said, I completely agree. I just can't get over the 5 different color schemes on the front dash, why so many? It looks rediculous but there are parts that I really like. Overall it's a decent looking truck, I'm just waiting on the #'s. Also, the fact that the Regular Cab F-150 can tow 9900lbs, it also has to be equipped with the payload package, and you know what that means (7 lug pos).

question - is the tundra now a real full size truck or a mini-truck like it used to be? (towing 10,000 lbs sounds like full size)

comments - outside looks OK. inside looks like a concept car. i have a real hard time with any truck that doesn't say ford, chevy or dodge on the hood. i wouldn't buy one.

I read in MT last night, that the Tundra will be as big as or bigger than the F-150. It was already longer than the F-150 in Crew-cab configuration; but with the specs they released (138.5 " wheelbase on the Extended cab, abd 150" wheelbase on the crew cab; she's already within a 1/2 in. of matching the current Super Crew's wheel base (139) and at 150, it exceeds it by a great deal.

Knowing yota, their "SuperCrew" which is not what we've seen, will have the 6.5 foot box at a minimum; judging by Dodge's crew cab havign done it, and the current Tundra having it already. The made the bed deeper too, which was another shortcoming.

To be honest guys, the more I look at it, the more I like it. If Ford doesnt really start making some changes with their vehicles Id buy a new Tundra. Ive learned not to exercise brand loyalty, Ford isnt loyal to me why should I be loyal to them?? It just doesnt make logical economical sense, I want to buy the best quality product, not allow my judgment to be clouded by loyalty. I just wish Ford would concentrate more on what we the customer want and not on cutting corners where they can.

Also, those seats look really comfy, mine are shaped like a box! That would be great if my butt and back were square, but theyre not!! Also, Ive stopped taking my truck to the dealer because its plain embarrassing to keep explaining to my friends/coworkers/family that I need a ride because my truck is in the shop again . Its really truely sad to be quite honest, I dont know about ya'll but it hurts the ego to keep taking a brand new effing truck into the dealer for major issues. Right now mine still ticks like a diesel(Ive actually had ppl ask me if it was a diesel), the master cylinder still leaks brake fluid, my engine still vibrates like crazy, and the trans still shifts erratically after recal. Id gladly let this POS go anyday, especially for a quality vehicle like this one.

That ticking sound must be a 5.4L glitch, because my 2003 Expedition does it too. I'd taken it in to get a host of little BS issues fixed, and they pulled it around, and had it ready for me. As I approached it, the service manager was walking up with me to make sure I was satisfied. As we got closer, I remembered one other thing, the ticking sound from the engine. I said, "Hey, do you hear that clickety-ticking sound? What's that? He said, "Oh, that? That's normal... We get a bunch of them in for that sound, and we never find anything wrong with them. They still run, and the diagnostics can't find a problem..."

Well, I had to agree; my truck never failed me; but, it has cut off on my wife one time, as she was running about 60 MPH; the engine just shut the F off. She lost the power steering, and everything. Fortunately, traffic was light, and she steered it to the right and brought it to a stop. She put it in park, cranked it up again, and went on to work...

It never did that before, or since. That was the only time the truck has failed on us... But yes; I'd have to agree, the ticking is a problem on the 5.4L.. My 4.6L's don't tick, never have...

Well, this undercarriage looks tailor made for a true dual exhaust set-up.
Hell, I could probably bend the pipes to make that myself.

Looks like it has two catalytic converters on it, going into a DI/SO muffler.

This baby's probably gonna be a ULEV, considering the twin cats...

2007 Tundra........thoughts????

Hey,

Here is a link to the new Toyota Tundra.

http://www.autoblog.com/2006/02/09/c...th-new-tundra/

I'm just curious what you guys think of this new model? I had an F-150 for seven years, and I've had a Toyota 4Runner for 2 years now. Both companies make great vehicles.

I like the new F-150 (mine was a 97 model). I think the interior is one of the strongest features.

Here is my take on the new Tundra
1. Exterior- kind of reminds me of a Dodge Ram, but not as overdone. I like the side profile. However, I think they need to reduce the amount of chrome in the front.

2. Interior- Obviously taking on the F-150. Its very nice and reminds me of the my 4Runner. 2 things I did not like. I don't like the round dials that surround the instruments. The 4Runner has 3 large round circles for the instruments instead of like 5 in this truck. I also do not like how half the dash is grey and half is silver.
If they clean these two things up I think they will have an interior that rivals the F-150.
3. Engine- 5.7 liter said to be able to tow 10,000 lbs. Another similarity to the Ram. Probably will give very good acelleration, but i'm curious as to the gas mileage. Probably better than the Ram, so I'd guess 14-15 mpg.

Overall, if the Nissan Titan was a shot across Detroit's bow then I think the new Toyota Tundra is a full broadside. I think it will sell very well. Probably around 150,000 to 200,000 the first year.

I expect Ford to probably make some improvements to the F-150 next year to make the truck as good as it can be. Side air bags would be a good idea. Maybe a 5 or 6 speed automatic (the Tundra will have a 6 speed auto). Stuff like that. My guess is that the F-150 will still sell well. Its a good truck and its owners are very loyal. I love my 4runner but I also miss my F-150. Lol, I literally did not even think about getting another vehicle for the first 6 years I drove it. It was that good.

I think that Toyota really has the Dodge Ram in its cross hairs. It sells about half as many as Chevy's and Ford's, so its the easies guy to pick on. Both trucks will be very similiar in size and dimension. I would guess that the new Tundra will take a small percentage of Chevy and Ford's sales and a giant chunk out of the Dodges sales.

Anyway, I posted this just to see what you guys think. Please don’t flame me or anything

Thanks!

I notice your new here, but someone posted the same exact thing yesterday in this forum. This post belongs in the general discussion forum.

we average these threads about once a week now in the GD section! check em out sometime

The mods should combine all these Tundra threads into one so it's not taking up all the room in the GD forum!
