I am a legal resident of this hell-hole of a state. Don't blame me, I was born that way. When I asked my father & uncle (both of which hate NJ too, they are from western PA & there aren't too many employment oppurtunities out there) why they still live here, both replied the same: "It doesn't matter where you want to live, it only matters where you can find a job that you can support your family on." True words indeed. In my fathers case, when Lockheed finished the C-5A in 1971, they fired like 3000 people. They found him a civilian job on McGuire AFB working the C-141's, as long as he was willing to join the AF Reserve. My mom is a liberal femi-**** so she loves NJ. In my uncles case, he works for the US Fish & Wildlife service & the Edwin B Forsynth Wildlife Refuge is where they sent him. He's lucky, he lives literally 500 yards from the front door to his shop. He walks year round to work.

I finished everything and dropped off the application at the police dept. One thing I noticed... The finger-print form the poice use is the EXACT same one I tried to give them from the FBI. I see now, it's not about the finger-prints, it's about collecting $54. I asked if the 12 weeks is a realistic time-frame & was told that since I dropped it off before the holidays, it would probably take about 15 weeks.

Further research has revealed that I am NOT allowed to use the guns I have legally procurred while stationed in SC. You ready for this??? I was supposed to surrender them to the police until I receive my gun card then I can go get them back... WTF!!! Technically, I've been breaking the law for the last 4 years and didn't even know it. There is something seriously wrong with this state. The officer tried to ask me what kind of guns and how many & I pretty much avoided the question. He did say that they NEVER enforce that one simply because of the massive number of military around the area. He told me not to worry since I just applied for the card, that I should be fine.

NJ also prohibits the private sale of firearms between citizens. You want to by Mr. Smiths 357 Mag??? Great, you have to take it to a licensed firearm dealer, sell it to them, fill out the paperwork, wait the 8 weeks, then & ONLY THEN can Mr. Jones legally buy that .357 Mag. This applies to ALL guns, not only handguns. Again, how on earth did this get passed into law??? So, if you go to a gun show in PA (there aren't too many here) and something catches your eye, you techincally can't buy it because as a citizen of NJ you are required to follow NJ guns laws. At these gun show (at least the ones I go to) the show-goers walk around with their private guns with 4-Sale signs on them. If you see something you want, if you're from NJ you aren't supposed to buy it. 99% of the people ignore this. I do know that you can buy a long gun from the vendors legally at these show since both my father & uncle have bought numerous long guns.

NJ I also discovered, does not recognize ANY OTHER STATE'S gun laws, none, period, end of story... The ONLY people exempt from this are out of state military that live on the military base itself. You can have a CCP from 10 states and NJ wouldn't care.

The two things I notice from this thread:
1. It's alarming how many people simply do not care about their freedoms being taken away & don't see them being taken away from others as a bad thing.
2. It's like really easy to buy a gun ANYWHERE other than CA, MD, NJ & I guess NYC, apparently they have some really f'd up laws there as well. I should have bought an arsenal when I was in SC...

I lived on Long Island in NY from 81-87 and my handguns were never legal there. New York law required I turn my pistols over to the Suffolk County Police Dept until everything was approved. Yeah Right!!!

When I bought my handguns in NJ about 15 years ago I could sell them to someone else provided he had the handgun purchase permit and we did all the paperwork.

"Butches guns" in Vineland had by far the best selection and prices on handguns. Shop around because they can very in price by hundreds of dollars. Also ask them if they will give you a military discount.

it was acting governor cory.

and its a half-truth.

according to what i saw on the star ledger tv news, it was a short notice scheduled trip to greystone to check out the conditions there.

if you are in new jersey and can get this news cast, its pretty interesting.

i never knew much about him (cory) either way, but from hearing him speak, and seeing the actions he took, he seems to be a guy with a pretty level head on his shoulders.

he actually stayed overnight to see what it was like to be there, and to get a better vibe on the living conditions. its nice to see someone willing to 'get his hands dirty' and i would think having a boss like that might help keep his sub-ordinates more on their toes.

just edited to add that after reading this thread, i went and poked around the web and didnt find anything on this either. i know i saw it on the star ledger new jersey news on tv yesterday, but i dont see any reference to the story online. weird.

You forgot Washington DC

Does, "and this right shall not be infringed" mean/translate to something different in NJ than it does in Indy?
