KC-10,
first off, join the NRA
secondly, MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Article I, Section 32 of the Constitution of the State of Indiana: "The people shall have a right to bear arms, for the defense of themselves and the State."

Come out here to Indiana. If you want a shotgun, I might sell you mine, or one of my handguns - and would be breaking no laws in doing so!

In Indy, you have, 'up to a 3 day waiting period' when purchasing a firearm from a dealer. When they do a background check, the state has up to 3 days to say, "No, this individual has a felony record." If the state doesn't reply in 3 days, the store can sell you the firearm whether you have a record or not. Most of the time a phone call is made and you have your answer in 2 minutes, but I have seen it go the full 3 days after Christmas when the state is swamped w/ calls and half the workforce is on vacation.

Or, you can get a 'Permit to Carry a Handgun' (note: you don't see the word concealed in there), and not have to worry about the state background check. To get a permit to carry, all you have to do is go the local law enforcement agency (local police or sheriff, depending on where you live), get finger printed, and send you application in with something like a $25 money order. It took about 4 or 5 weeks for me to get mine a few years ago, but it only took 2 weeks for my wife to get hers a couple of years ago.

I thought it was an unnecessary and unconstitutional hassle when I did it a few years ago; however, Indiana is one of the better states when it comes to owning and carrying firearms.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton, old times here is not forgotten, look away, look away, look away, Dixieland...

Georgia does have it's ups...

Edit - Oh, and I'm a shooter myself, I sympathize with the crap that the state is putting you through, but next time you'll look a lot more intelligent and make a lot more sense venting away without the use of f@#! for every other word. Some of us don't want to read that junk in the evenings at home when we're trying to relax and kill some time. I ain't exactly the Pope with my language either, but I know when to check it.

Yes, joining the NRA isn't a bad idea. Realize that this is coming from a disenfranchized NRA Distinguished Life Member. They certainly need more numbers, I'm just tired of the Duck and Deer hunters selling my rights away because 'no one needs a MG/AK/AR etc" rhetoric. I highly recommend the GOA and JPFO (You don't have to be Jewish to join BTW). Also check for state level organizations. Virginia has the VCDL which is an AWESOME organization, but I'd say you're all but screwed in PRNJ.

Makes me glad to be an Arkansas Redneck. I have bought many guns on a whim, just cause I liked them and got a good deal. To buy a gun here you fill out a form, which takes about 2 minutes, the store makes one phone call then you cough up the cash. Since I have a concealed handgun license, I get to skip the phone call. I could go into any gun store and walk out with whatever I wanted in less than 10 minutes, unless the store was busy and I had to wait in line.

There is a small little pawn shop in Harrison Arkansas I buy several hand guns every chance I get from. But I have to go thru a local dealer to have them shipped up here. They can not hand them to me and me carry them across the state line as a Missouri Resident...

Thinking about getting an FFL just for that.
Already have a CWL

I've been told that getting a Type 03 FFL (I think that's the one) is a pain, because the ATF intends for someone with that FFL to maintain a storefront and buy/sell a certain number of firearms a year. Getting a C&R FFL is a bunch easier, but you're limited to a specific list of firearms you can buy and get delivered straight to your door.

Class III is license that deals with, full auto, supressors, and short length barreled rifles, among other things.

A regular FFl isn't that difficult to get, I forget the cost, and you do need to buy/sell so many per year. But it is not an unusually high number.

You are correct a C&R license will only allow you to buy from a list that has to be so many years old.

Can you go to a more gun friendly state and purchase you shotgun? I have went in to a shop in MD and left with a rifle a few minutes later after the paperwork and NICS deal.

We are fortunate in PA, i can go into a shop see soemthing I want, fill out a paper, hand him my DL and leave a few minutes later, I bought a gun on Wed. 2 weeks ago with an expired DL and a carry permit, did the same thing 70 miles away 3 days later when I walked into a shop while driving by, on my way to buy something out of a classified add.

I am a Life Member of the NRA, they say they can't do anything for me. They do encourage me to send more money to fight for my 2nd amendment rights however... It's funny, NJ does in fact have a concealed carry law. Problem is, the state gets to decide if you deserve it or not. I do not know a SINGLE PERSON that has ever been issued one. I'm thinking about 20 people I know have applied.

I've just finished a letter to my Congressman but I'm almost positive he will tell me that this is a state issue that he can't help with.

The bear hunt was funny in one way... On the last day, there were a bunch of animal rights nuts protesting. I kid you not, they were wearing shirts that had the slogan "I'd Take A Bullet For A Bear". The boys were out in force in case the cops were going to let that come true. I think about 300 bears were taken. I can't find a pic of the animal nuts to show the shirt but it was featured on the local news.

Last time for the intellectually impaired (AKA stupid people)... I can't move I'm... I'm in the military. They tell me when I move, not the other way around. Even if I asked to, realistically, I would be in NJ for at least 6 more years. In all practicality, the only way I could get of of the CPRofNJ is less than say 6 years would be to turn in my wings. Then the USAF would not let me re-enlist. So I would be basically throwing away the last 14 years of my life. Not the most intelligent choice to be sure...

To those who are offended by my language, I sincerely apologize... The world is a F'd up place. If you are afraid of foul language, I recommend residing in a cave or a monastery where the follow a vow of silence. It may be crude but it is reality and much like Ozzy Osbourne (of all people) I believe in brutal honestly and and reality. That's how I operate.

Probably not. Once I get the card, it depends on the state in question whether or not they will allow the sale. None of the states, by law, can sell me anything without the card. I do know from my father & uncle that most PA guns shops don't the headache of dealing with NJ BS...

How's that Banks exhaust treating you? I was in Johnstown for Turkey Day. I was heading up Eisenhower Blvd & started sliding backwards down the hill. I slammed on the brakes and spun the truck around. I remember commenting to my wife that I hoped the light would be green at 56. I slid right thru the light into the middle of the road. I proceded to the Sleep Inn parking and called my brother-in-law to come get me in his Suburban. I had to buy 600lbs of bagged sand at Lowes to get home. Now I have 600lbs of sand & 600 pounds of gravel. I'm set...

For all you NJ lovers... I'm alread formulating plans to move when I retire. The places I'm considering:
Western PA. My entire family is from PA but most of them live in NJ for some reason...
Western NC. I absolutely LOVED the Morgantown & Arden areas (near Asheville) this is the front runner right now, unless things change, this is probably where I'll end up.
CO or WY. You can buy land for about $1000 an acre out there.
GA. I like GA espescially the area north of Marietta.
WV. Again, one of the most scenic places east of the Miss R. Why WV has a bad rap is beyond me.
So, all you liberal's can rest easy and take my word as a professional NCO in the USAF that I will be out of the CPRofNJ within 1 week of my retirement.

Even now, my BIL (he's a stock broker) is running numbers to see if it's financially feasable to move to the area just over the I95 bridge in PA. The numbers aren't looking good I'm afraid.
