This is the no contest most dumb-*** thread since I joined this board. You guys probably already know that but I just COULDN'T resist anymore. This is worse than the Terri Schiavo or abortion threads. This one needs to be locked...

ALL RELIGIONS are far too arrogant for their and their followers good. Like a few in the thread pointed out, who is anyone to say this or that religion is right/wrong. The Christians & Catholics HATE everyone but themselves. The Islamics want to KILL everyone but themsleves. The Native Americans are cursing the European settlers for *****ing up their culture. The Protestants & Catholics are chucking hand grenades at each other in Ireland for the last who knows how long. The Hindu's & Budhists are wondering why everyone can't find inner piece. The Jewish people didn't like any of the other religions so they invented their own. Etc... Problem is, ALL RELIGIONS have some form of hypocrisy & ingorance imbedded in them. I'm sure the Koran never mentioned killing thousands in the name of Allah, but it happened on 9-11. I'm sure the bible doesn't mention throwing handgrenades at other people or blowing up abortion clinics, but it happens. I'm sure the Hindu book doesn't mention fighting over a useless rock pile like Kashmir but it happens. The single biggest thing that makes me laugh about religion is the Christians refuse to accept the fact that their savior is Jewish. I'm 100% sure that no one's God would condone the actions that some people do in the name of religion. People use religion as an excuse for their idiotic actions and usually that is an accepted practice. 90% of wars are caused by religion, no one seems to find fault with that.

If you analyze further you will see that Chistianity has only be around for slightly more than 2000 years. Islam is about the same, maybe slightly older. The Aboriginal people of the world, you know, the people that most religious zealots like to call un-washed heathens, have been around 20 times longer than the two largest religious groups, Christian & Muslim. That would mean that since they were here first, so was "their" God. So, if they were here first, that would mean since "God" created everything, the Aboriginal people's religion is the correct one. That's a fact overlooked by most. Everyone after the Aboriginal people *****ed up the system and you have the mess we have today.

Who the ***** does anybody think they are to say "My religion is right, the rest of you are ignorant infidels." Isn't that just a LITTLE arrogant. I am not bashing any particular religion. I simply find great amusement in any arrguement over religion. There is a undisputable fact I have learned in my 31 years: When it comes to religion and politics, no one really wants to listen to your opinion, they only do just so they can point out how wrong you are & how right they are.

I presume I'm one of the "God haters" you mentioned. As an athiest, by definition, I don't believe in the existance of "gods". How can I hate something that, in my opinion, doesn't exist? Call me a "God denier" if you must categorize me that way, as at least then you would be accurate. Your chosen term simply exposes your teeny tiny closed mind for what it is.

You sure like to throw accusations and slurs at people who don't agree with your narrow-minded views regarding religion in general and christianity specifically. I'd like to quote a hero and supposed role model of yours. " Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone". Recognize it? Are you without sin? If so, you are a better person than anyone on the planet. In fact, I think you must qualify for sainthood.
In actuality, you qualify for at least three and maybe four of the Seven Deadly Sins.

WRATH- People who disagree with you, or, don't live like you, or, don't believe like you, sure seem to **** you off.

PRIDE- Your self-pride shows up in every post you've made in this thread, so far.

Perhaps, instead of pointing out the shortcomings of everyone you come in contact with, you should get down on your knees and pray to your god that you can overcome your own shortcomings and not be quite so judgemental.

J-150, I'm glad you realize not all Christians are the same. Many of us use the bible to guide our lives, and actually try to understand the book, rather then pick quotes we like. The right-wing Christian, which has been vocal as a bunch of whining tree huggers lately, is a minority in the world of Christianity, and many do seem to use the bible to justify their actions. Most of us Christians may believe you are wrong for not following Christ, but respect your right to do so. The difference between extremists and everyone else, tolerance.

For those that say being gay is a sin, please enlighten me. And don't use that Leveticus passage, that's old testament and doesn't apply anymore, PLUS it only says gay MEN are wrong, not gay women. And if you feel the "seed spilling" story is all about the seed, don't bother answering. I would love a mature, reasonable discussion about the bible, close-minded people, insulters and non-believers need not apply. Adam, come on buddy, you don't need to believe to have respect for someone elses beliefs.

Billy, isn't it interesting how we choose to use some words from other languages, but not others? The Greeks had Gods, as did the Romans, the Egyptians, the Hebrews. None of them used the word God, but we translate it that way for everyone except Muslims.

In reference to the religious discussion for the subject, what is the point? We DO NOT live under Christian law, we live under the laws of the United States. Adopting any laws of any religion would be in direct conflict with our Constition. You are allowed to practice your religion, if you don't want to act out your homo feelings because you feel it's a sin, then don't, no one's stopping you?

Whitey, You keep throwing out that people will feel different on their death beds. Do you have children? Would you still love them if they came home and said they were gay? Would you still bring them to church? Would Jesus still love them? If we did live under Christian law, would you turn them in for being gay? By the way, what does your user name mean?

No one really cares what anyone's opinion is on religion and politics. The only reason anyone listens to your opinion on the matter just so they have the opurtunity to point out how wrong you are & how right they are.

If you would have read my post you would have read that. Try a course in reading comprehension before you bash someone.

BTW... I agree with your post. Funny how that is isn't it, after I just said no one cares what someone else says about religion.

All the religious nut-cases will be singing a different tune if their son comes home with his new "girlfriend" who happens to be named "William"... Same goes for the daughters. I'll bet they wouldn't stop loving or caring about their daughter if they came home with a "Life Partner"...

I believe that Christians are good people. They have a good teacher.

I also believe that Jews and Muslims are inherently good people.

What we see in the world are a lot of zealots. They are not holy people living by the words of the Bible, Torah or the Quran. They are politicians, oligarchs, tyrants and dictators that use religion as a tool for conquest.

For every one of these people, there is another that would give you the shirt off their backs if you were cold. Would give you their last dollar if you needed it. These are the people going to heaven.

 

arrbilly, you're a little more up on this so please fill in the blanks or correct me where need be. My understanding was that Islam is an offshoot of Judaism. Muslims went their own way due to racism/classism or being cast out by the Jews and that is why they are enemies to this day.

 

let's not get ahead of ourselves on locking.

There are some disagreements here, but everyone is playing peacefully in the sandbox after 12 pages. People are respecting (most of us at least) the opinions of others and being enlightened on their different perspectives. I find that its a pretty mature conversation so far (once we got beyond page 4 or so)

As long as we have this mature behaviour and the participants are willing to continue it, there is no reason for the thread to be locked.

the politic thing? arguing politics is as Canadian as snow and beer and saying "eh?" If we didn't argue politics in our country, we'd have nothing to talk about (especially with no hockey)

in my circle of friends, we run the spectrum from extreme left (further left than the NDP) to extreme right (that would make Preston Manning drop his jaw). But we're Canadian so its cool.

If you throw out the old testament as being pre grace so what it says doesnt apply anymore then we can do away with the 10 comandments too. They were wrote as pre grace so they would no longer apply either. Right?

God didn't change the way he feels about our actions after Calvary (grace). The only real change is that we no longer have to make animal sacrafices to God and that now societies job as judge, jury, and executiners (sp?) were taken away.

With out looking I think that Deuternomy does say that if a woman lay with another woman as she would lay with a man then both shall be put to death and thier blood shall be on thier own heads.

As well as a man laying with a beast. Or a woman laying with a beast as they would lay with a partner then both the man or woman and the beast involved should be put to death.... "Beastiality"
Also says if you lay with your fathers or your mothers daughter then both shall be put to death and thier blood is on thier own heads. "incest"

Of course we are not supose to kill anyone involved in these activitis anymore because we are now postgrace. But that dosent mean that God approves of it, infact he calls it distasteful and vial. God will not allow anything that he sees as distateful and vial into his kingdom just like you would not let a known serial killer come live with you and your family in your house. Everything and everybody wiil be tasteful in his eyes. BUT anyone who is or has participated in these acts or any sinful act (including acts of sexual perversion, murders, convicts, etc., etc.) can now repent of thier actions, present them before the Lord and wash them under the blood of the lamb (Jesus). Then go into the world and share his word never to do these sins again and they will be allowed to enter the gates of the kingdom of God. Thats what Grace is my friends that a sinner like I was, may repent before the Lord and my sins are thrown as far as the East is from the West. (If you dont know how far that is then try to head East and keep going East until your compasses needle flips to read that you have passed the West.)

I could go on and on there is a lot more to say but I have to go right now...
Thats just the start of my gut feelings and understanding of it though. I could be wrong, it would be sorta nice if I am, I hope we all make it into heaven. Just think how much fun a serial killer would have killing people that can't die. That would be heaven for him.
