Take care & wishes for a speedy recovery.

Off topic, is LaGrange near Ft.Knox? The name sounds vaguely familar I went to school at UK, & then was recently stationed at Knox. I miss the country so bad!!!!
All went well. Percocet is my friend.

La Grange is just northeast of Louisville in Oldham County. It's a 20 min drive from my house to my office in Louisville each morning...

Thanks for all the kind words folks. It all went pretty well but I'm definitely sore. I'm going to go ice down and pop another percocet.

I'm here in the interim until Mr. Percocet decides to kick my butt... which should be soon.

Talking

I didn't bother to mention the Lightning Forum because, well even if someone was trying to wreak havoc how could you tell?

I mean it's like, 'Take a Number.'.

It's similar to purchasing a handgun...

There's a waiting list and a background check.

So...

Here I am 5 days after my surgery and I'm still hurting like a son of a gun...

One side of my mouth is, seemingly, healing up just dandy... the other is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY.

My question...

What is a 'dry socket'? Did any of you guys experience this?

A dry socket is an infection that is brought upon by losing the blood clot that forms in the socket to keep it moist and protected, hence "dry socket". Once you get a dry socket, nothing you can take will help. You have to go back to your dentist so he can pack some medicine in there for a day or two then all will be well. The medicine comes in the form of gauze strips or like small cotton *****.

Hope this helps.

T minus 2 hours until my appointment. I really have to get rid of this pain...

After doing some research last night, I'm 99% sure that I have a dry socket. The taste in my mouth/smell of my breath is unforgetable and I've never had anything like it... well, except that one time after that one party back in college... whew, what a night. Her name was Jaime and copius amounts of alcohol were involved.... LOL!

Man, I feel for ya Pick. The best thing you can do right now is sleep. If you weren't going to the dentists that is. Helps pass the time.

Keep us informed.

All is well on the wisdom tooth frontier... and, to beat all, I feel like a wuss... (although only I really know how bad it frickin hurt)...

Long story short, my stitches were rubbing and causing ulcerations around the extraction. The dentist who removed them (a different guy from the extractions) said that the stitch that the guy used was an 'older' style of stitch and the knot used was very very tight. So, in turn, because of the pressure on the stitches, the ulcerations, and the overall inflammation in the area of the extraction, I was just about to find a bridge and jump off...

Thank god, no dry socket.

The guy snipped the stitches out and asked me to go back out into the waiting room to see if I started to feel some relief. About 10 minutes later, he popped his head back out to check on me and I could've given him a big kiss (if you all knew how bad I was hurting, you'd have the same sentiments)... I felt 100X better. It was the stitches...

So, I'm still a tad sore but, far from pain now. I guess it's back to work tomorrow (after I get a flat tire fixed in the morning -- damn construction in my neighborhood is about to really really really **** me off -- drywall screw three weeks ago; nail this week).

Thanks for the help on this folks. It's not something I'd recommend to do for fun...

Glad to hear that all is well in the RP home tonight!!

I just made the appointment for my wisdom tooth to come out and when I spoke to the lady she says my insurance won't cover being put all the way under . If I pay for it myself it's $120 . This news makes me, understandably, apprehensive. Should I fork out the dough or can I do it with just a local?? It's only one tooth and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain...

Any advice appreciated!
