Dude, why don't you just go start a bar fight and get them all knocked out? They'll give you a full set of teeth that you can take out and chase little kids with! My grandmother puts hers in the dishwasher!
<---- And that's what she looks like when she laughs...no teeth!

Habibi, you wuss.
Okay, so I didn't end up having all four out. Actually, the surgon opted to only remove the one that was giving me the pain as I have advanced decay in another molar that needs to be dealt with (aka: drilled) prior to dealing with the others (both from a professional standpoint as well as a insurance standpoint).
So, as of this moment, I'm only 25% less wise.
I swear I thought the guy was trying to reach down my throat with a clinched fist when he was pulling the one. Local anesthia wasn't too bad but the shot hurt in the roof of my mouth.... yeah, I know, that sounds like a panzy but it did.
All is well. I haven't even taken any of the Loratab (sp) as I have little to NO pain. I'm in VERY good shape.

I'm dreading it and I'm sure I'll be nervous up until when they put me under.
Someone mentioned an IV.... is that the only way that they'll put you under?
Pros/Cons gas?

Recently I had the other two (bottoms) cut out & I had an IV. I remember the IV start, kidding around about giving me some Versed, and ZONK, I am sitting in the waiting room. Don't even remember getting out of the chair.... don't remember much of the ride home either.... Versed rocks, much more potent than the nitrous, IMO and you don't feel the injections into your gums.
either way you'll do great

The doctor recommended that I 'go out' for this because I have at least one toot that is impacted and he said it might be a beast to get out (but he vowed that he'd get it... lol! lucky me).

Just be glad they are doing it in the office, sometimes we have to bring kids to the O.R. to take their wisdom teeth out.

I'd strongly vote for VERSED and an IV for an impacted tooth.

I know I'll be fine... again though, I'm nervous.
Try not to worry too much. I'm sure the staff will take great care of you.
Take care & wishes for a speedy recovery.
Off topic, is LaGrange near Ft.Knox? The name sounds vaguely familar I went to school at UK, & then was recently stationed at Knox. I miss the country so bad!!!!

You guys are making me nervous and I don't even need surgery. How old were you when your wisdom teeth were pulled? After reading these posts I can only hope like two kinds of hell that I don't need this done someday. I'm 21 now and on top of that, my insurance isn't that good. I think they pay 0%....
They gave me the gas when I had mine pulled.
After they hooked up the gas, I just remember the two nurses sitting in the corner talking, then I felt a little cold/tingly, then next thing I know I hear them calling my name and Im awake with a mouth full of guaze.
It wont be bad...

I'll be thinking about you RP. Hope it all goes smoothly and you're done for good this time. I get to go in Tuesday and have 2 crowns put on and possibly a wisdom tooth removed in the coming weeks
I'm a little nervous about the extraction myself but you all have provided some good advice and experiences so I should be fine...I hope...

I had all 4 out at once this past summer, it wasnt that bad at all. Make sure (for the fun of it), have them put you all the way under...I V and everything. Going under is no big deal, they stick the needle in your arm, ask you if youre ready to go to sleep, then hook it up to the IV...nighty night! If they do this with you, try to remember the point at which you felt tired or went to sleep....you will have no clue what happened to you until you wake up. I really dont remember the trip home (mom drove)
We stopped by the pharmacy when we got back into town to get my medicine and i was just starting to come back to reality. I remember looking out the window and seeing a mom and her little daughter standing about 10 feet beside my truck and the mom was searching for something in her purse. My mouth was packed full of gauze and filled with blood. I opened the door stepped out, spit all that crap out on the ground (ugh, it was nasty) and it made the little girl puke!!! LOL!!!
It was funnny!
Make sure you carry a bottle with you for a day or so to spit in (like what you see tobacco chewers using) - Youll need it.
I dont remember what the medicine was callled, it was a narcotic. Took care of the pain, but if you really want to freak out, crush 2 of them up and let it dissolve in a beer bong w/ 2 beers in it....gulp....whoo!! -------------------- jk
Honestly, they told me not to eat anything harder than an uncooked bagel for 6 weeks for fear of breaking my jaw. I was eating Wendy's the next night, but my jaw did hurt for a good week and a half to two weeks after surgury, just constantly sore especially when eating. Good luck!!

The first 2 I had out, they put me under. At that time they used a derivative of sodium pentathol. After waking up, they had me stay at the office for about 20 mins, then I drove home. The last 2 were done using nitrous and novacaine. Drove home after those too.
I hope you wisdom teeth are being taken out before they start bothering you. The first I had done had tried to come in, but was pushing against my rear molar. That one took much longer to get better due to all the inflamed tissue around it. After that I had them out before they caused trouble and recovery was much quicker. One of those was impacted. Again much quicker recovery than the first.
Good luck.

My turn.
I was in the Marine Corps when I had mine pulled.
I swear that Naval Doctor used a pair of old rusty pliers and barbed wire to pull mine. Hurt like a sum bish for 3 days.
Dry socket? more like hole in the head socket. That chit hurts when the packing/blood clot pops out. Put you to your knees.
OH WAIT...thats not the input your looking for is it RP...
