Another Wisdom Tooth Thread...
I didn't get any gas, just the IV, and I would actually prefer the IV. I sat down in the chair, and after about 45 seconds of small talk, they had the thing in my arm. Doc asked me to count to ten, and in the words of Ron White, "I think I made it to 'wuh'". If you have a choice, go with the IV. I didn't want to be awake at all.
I had the IV when I had mine removed. I fortunately had a morning appt & even tho I slept fine the night before since I'm not a morning person I fell back asleep in the chair waiting for them to start. So they had to wake me up to put me to sleep.
Afterwards I went home & slept for the rest of the day & night. Man was it nice.
To help prevent dry sockets its also best not to use a straw for a couple days (same premise as with smoking).
After a couple days the hydrocodine (generic vicodine) wasn't really doing anything for me so I used baby orajel (night time formula) whenever my mouth started hurting. Worked like a charm, I figured if it helps a little one to sleep it should be fine for me & boy was it. Plus the fact that I could drive after putting that on (unlike with taking the hydrocodine).

I had mine removed around 1990 while in the Army (in Wurzburg, Germany - home of the 3rd Infantry Division at the time). They removed 2 at a time while I was awake. 2 on one visit and then 2 later. The first 2 went ok and wasn't all that bad. The next visit wasn't so good. She broke the last one off and they had to drill it to get it out. Man that sucked! The smoke and sound of the drill made me sick. What a nasty feeling, even though I couldn't really feel pain. If I could do it again, I'd ask to have all 4 done at once and to be put to sleep while they did it.
I almost forgot...
try to avoid hot and cold liquids.
Drink room temperature bottled water.
Stick to soup and light menu items for the first few days.
(I saw your photo) It won't kill you to miss a meal here and there anyway
** Try to rinse your mouth out with warm salt water a few times each day**

Sorry, I know that's not what you want to hear. I asked all of them and they said the exact same thing.
They're either all lying or they're republicans, I don't know which.
I had mine done as a hospital outpatient. One was deeply impacted so the Oral surgeon felt that general anesthesia was better. I arrived in the early morning and got dressed in the hospital gown. They gave me two shots, one in each *** cheek. One was to relax me and the other was to dry out my mouth. They then gave me an IV. They started the demerol drip and asked me about college. I do not remember if I answered it or not. I woke up over an hour later but I thought it was minutes and I did not even think I had surgery yet. I put my hand to my face to find a mouthful of gauze.
I had a dry socket and it was painful. I had 12 stitches most were the self disolving kind but a couple had to be removed. The best thing they did for my dry socket was pack it with some gauze soaked with cinnamon flavored pain killer. The codeine didn't help and upset my stomach so much I could not eat anything. i had to use a syringe like thing to squirt water into the socket to keep food out of it until it healed.
This was all 21 years ago. Now I have a toothache and do not want to go to the dentist. I guess I should though.

Oh yeah, yell at me because I wasn't a rich kid who was given one of these...

How am I supposed to know what a friggin' goat sounds like?
(I realize you're under alot of stress because of Friday.
I'm not, I'm just practicing for Friday)

All four of mine are gone but they were pulled one at a time over a span of three years. Just had each of them pulled when they gave me trouble. Never had a problem during or after the surgery either. I’m sure everything will work out OK for ya!
I only had three wisdom teeth, and I got them all taken out back in Jan. The procedure wasnt bad at all; I had IV painkillers and some kind of sedative (I think it was Versed), as well as the gas over the nose. I also had some headphones, and I brought a CD that they let me play.
Now that....that was a heck of a high! I was pissed when they told me it was over. But at least he gave me a script for a lot of percocets for home
The sutures will be annoying for a little while until they fall out, and so will the syringe you get to clean out the holes. Be sure to blast them bastards clean every night... I always had a hell of a lot of stuff coming out of them.
The ONLY problem I've had is that ever since the surgery, my right TMJ clicks every time I open my mouth. I'm not sure if its related to the surgery or not... but its pretty damn annoying. Sometimes it locks open (it likes to lock up on planes... something with the pressure)... but at least its gettin me to stop chewing gum. Can't be treated... so oh well.
It'll go fine... just emphasize "a low pain tolerance" and pre-op anxiety and it will be the best hour of your life.. that only seemed like a minute.

Here's an update for Rockpicks comfort level and piece of mind:
It's 4am Thu morning, I had 2 of mine removed 20 hours ago, and I just woke up in excruciating pain.
So I went to the fridge, snarfed back the last strawberry custard tart and a glass of milk, and then a quick Tylenol 4 as a chaser.
So here I am, yeaning for death to come and quietly take me in my sleep. that's how bad it hurts!!.
Ok, maybe I'm not exactly yearning for death (I'm trying to scare you)
but I do hope I can fall back asleep quickly so I can escape this pain that's making me go out of my mind.
What's with you guys stories?
IV lines? Gas? Hospitals?
Did I get cheated??
I got to put my *** in the dentist chair, got a local up the ying yang, and then he grabbed his best pliers and pulled the little bastards out?
Then I got a "thanks for coming, so you in a few weeks"
No script, no pain killers, no FA!
Luckily I have my own supply of pain killers or I can't imagine getting through this.
I'm going back to bed
'grumble grumble'

Thanks Habibi... that makes me feel a million times better. Golly gee, I can't wait to have these teeth yanked out now... gosh I wish I could go today and have it done...
I think, at this point, the anxiety is what's driving me crazy. I've never had surgery of any type before and thus, it's really playing mind games with me. The mere thought of an IV really kind of bothers me but, I know it's a necessary evil to do this in the manner that I want it to be done (aka: me totally out). Fortunately, I guess I have a high pain tolerance and thus, I won't have to get on here and whine like Habibi much (I reserve the right to withdraw this comment at any time at my own discretion!).
I am ready to get one of the four out but, I figure I'd rather go ahead and get all of them (if i have 4) out on a one shot deal. Just makes more sense.
Thanks again to all who have basically told me like it is. I appreciate honesty and sugar-coating it only makes it 10X worse in my opinion. A special thanks to catch22 for posting his teeth here. LMAO!
