Where can I get the best deal on plan tickets to California?

I need to find two tickets from a Chicago (midway or o’ hare) airport to either Hollywood, or Los Angeles California. Where can I go on the web to try to get discounted tickets for two? They aren’t till April. The dates I'd leave are Thursday (after 4:00 pm)
April 8th - and return on Wednesday April 15th anytime.
Thanks, Shane

I use:
http://www.travelocity.com
or
http://www.orbitz.com

the first one is a little easier to use.

thanks for all the links, so far the best I was able to come up with was $330 each. Does that sound about right for Chicago to La?
thanks again, Shane

Always search all the websites listed above. It's never the same. One site will have a better deal than the others depending on date and location. Even if you travel at the same time every year the sites will vary on price. One year Orbitz rocks then the next travelocity.

Priceline.com can save you a lot too if you know what you're doing. NEVER bid there HIGH, they will lock you into the high price. My parents made tha mistake one year and spent $100 more than the going rate. They lock you in to a price. Do research then bid a little lower.

Anyone who is used to flying from near Chicago to California, what do you usually pay? I dont mind a lay over. I am looking for two afternoon flights. Can I find tickets for under $200 each you think? Thanks, Shane

I pay about 305 to fly from Las Vegas to Chicago.....I do that about 3 times a year around the Holidays so your prices are about accurate.....

Shane -
It all depends on WHEN you are going, how long you plan to stay, etc.

Is it during a blackout period?
Are you staying on a Saturday?
Are you staying longer than 7 days?

330 dollars may be good depending on when you go and for how long?

For example...
IF you were to fly from ORD to LAX (O'Hare to Lost Angeles) departing on Dec. 24th and return on Dec 27th, the following applies
Spirit Airlines (never heard of them) has a nonstop both direction and the fare is 264.00 roundtrip (per person)
those same dates have the following fares for the following airlines
United 311.00
American 363.00
Conteintial 481.00
and Northwest 549.00

If you left on the 19th and returned on the 27th, then United has the lowest fare at 262.00 (down form 311.00)

If you left on the 16th and returned on the 27th then Spirit has the lowest fare at 224.00

These fares are never final until you book so they could change by the time you check them out...

Like I said, I have never heard of Spirit Airlines, but they do have non-stops which is nice and seem to have the loewst fares...for what it's worth

k

I plugged your data into Travelocity just for fun:
Cheapest flight was U$189 roundtrip on Spirit Airlines (flight 1442), next one was U$261 via ATA (several flights)

I punched in depart Chicago to LA 8th Apr in PM, return 15th Apr Anytime. BTW, the 15th is a Thursday. If you come back on Wednesday the 14th, the Spirit Air price goes down to U$179 roundtrip.

All prices are per person.

I found the $189 one also, but it is for crazy times. After the time change, I would get into California way after midnight. I wouldn't want to ask anyone to come and get us from the airport at that time. Even if I get a 5 o clock flight our time, a 5 hour flight plus 2 hour time change is 12 as it is... Maybe we should just go with that one and get a cab or rental car back to the house.
The dates I am looking for are
Chicago to LA- April 8th after 4pm
LA to Chicago- April 14th afternoon

The $189 one with the crazy times may actually work out. California is 2 hours behind us, not ahead of us like I first thought. That helps us a lot.
We can leave Chicago at 8:50 and get into Los Angeles at 11:15 California time. That isn't too bad. (better than the 2am I first thought it was) Then on the return flight, we'd leave from California late Tuesday night/Wednesday morning at 12:25 am and with the time change, get back here at 6:30 am.
So we would need to be picked up from the airport in California at 11:30 when we get in, then we'd need to be dropped off at around 10:30 for our flight home. Then we'd need to be picked up from Chicago at around 7am. That isn’t as bad as I thought.
I am going to look into anything else. See if it is worth paying the extra money for to get any better times. But for now that flight for $189 a piece doesn’t look that bad. Let me know if anyone comes up with anything better
Thanks for everyone’s help, Shane
