I can't believe I'm saying this, but...

My exhaust is just too loud! I researched and listened and asked and last October (a year ago) I had my Maggie hi flows, x pipe and 4x14 magnapacks installed. I was on cloud nine! I loved it! I still love it but it's just gotten to be too much. The wife hates driving with me, we can barely talk over the drone, and now this winter I'll be using the truck to drive 3 or 4 hours up to the Great North Woods here in NH several times to sled. I really hate saying this but I have to make a change. I have heard the length and amount of bends after the mufflers can lead to excessive drone; my magnapacks are near the front of the bed and from there back, up and over the axle up high and drop out at angles. So I was thinking cut it all out and just dump after the packs. I would still have drone, but maybe less? The other option right now is replace mufflers. I had them installed 6" centerline from each other, so I could cut them out and install a Maggie 12568 (DI/DO 2.5" 5x11 oval 22" length). That muffler's centerline outlets is 5.75", I can definitely get 1/8" play from the exhaust lines before the mufflers. Anyone try that particular DI/DO muffler? I'd love to retain the aggressive tone as much as possible and kill the drone some. Any other good DI/DO with a 5 1/2" to 6" centerline outlets? Just can't pul off the straight throughs anymore!

Well I just searched and saw that twinskrewd went with the 12568, though he's blown...I may try it for the hell of it. Also, can't seem to get clarification in the threads. The 12568, some say it has a built in x, others say no, the built in x only comes with the cat back kit, the muffler alone doesn't have it. I checked the Maggie site, it says it's got the Tru-X perforated core, so I guess that answers my question other than, is it ok to run this muffler if I already have an X pipe? Could two crossovers be bad, or could it help "smooth" things out more?

A year ago I recommended the 11" oval bodies to 4.6 punisher to reduce the drone since he had your same setup. He loves it to as far as I can recall. Low drone inside, hellacious noise outside

I was first thinking Pro XS, but at $180 for a DI/DO or $150 each for two SI/SO, I would be a little upset if it didn't resolve the issue greatly. And as best as I can tell, I don't think the inlets are close to 6" centerline, as I would like to avoid retubing up front.

Darren, are we talking 11" oval bodies like this 5x11 DI/DO I'm looking at? I'm on Maggies site there are a few 11s: 12580 (SI/DO 2.5"/2.25" 5x11) and 12576 (SI/SO 2.5" 5x11) as well as some offsets. Would I be better off with two singles? Is that an issue to have the DI/DO with the Tru-X pipe inside when I already have an X-pipe? Thanks guys.

Instead of trying X mufflers or twin mufflers .....you may be better off with a single muffler and going 2 into 1 out into 2... (2-1-2).....imo

Dumping under the truck will just make the drone worse. Run the pipes either straight out the back or out the sides behind the rear wheels.

No. I was talking the 11" oval bodies. Not the 22" body with the 5x11 case. The 11" bodies are 5x8 oval.

Here is my old 2004 with true dual 11" magnaflows.

I hear ya there. Thats why i just installed a bullet into the stock exhaust on my truck. Its not too loud but still rumbles a little. I cant stand the really loud trucks. Because they are just trucks, they arent muscle cars or anything.

I used to love the exhaust on my Mustang. I have BBK ceramic coated long tubes, bbk off road H to 3 inch MAC Pro dumps before the axle. I hate it now. It sounds so mean at idle and driving but its just too loud now. Ill probably change it before next summer

yeah truckguy, that's the maggie I was looking at at $125, but again, with the built in x, is it bad if I already have an x and then a second x in the case? Those borlas are nice, but at $90 to $100 each, I'd be kinda upset to spend $200 on something that doesn't fix the problem, though it's not at all much more than the maggies now that I look at it...how's the drone with those?

worm the 18s are quiter, but I'm not trying to reduce exterior volume, just the interior 1800-200 rpm death drone. There would be less volume and drone with those, but the same type of drone non the less.

88racing, that thought crossed my mind too, but wouldn't that kinda defeat the purpose of a true dual with cross over? just dropping back into 1?

Darren, watched your vid with the 11" oval bodies...I love the sound, it's similar to mine, I think my 4x14s are a bit louder and bark some, but how's was the drone on your old truck?

Again, I love the sound outside the truck, but the drone/volume inside is too much. would switching to an 11" oval body really reduce the drone that much over a 4x14 round? I wonder if part of the drone is the amount of piping/bends after the mufflers to get the tips to drop into the outside corners of the bumper. That and my high flows might be adding to it, but those are staying. It's all stainless piping, and I'd like to avoid reworking anything before the mufflers. I'm not biased to magnaflow, I personally like them, but if borla solved the problem I'd go for them I guess. Again, I just don't want to make a purchase without knowing for sure. Exhaust vids are great, but they really don't show interior drone. I really want to keep the aggressive sound outside, but eliminate as much as possible the drone inside. Is that actually achievable?

I love my Borla pro xs. Zero drone in the cab but it is probably quieter than you're looking for on the outside.

Yes the 4x14 magnapacks are louder than the 11" bodies. The 11"s aren't as loud inside though. The drone was quite minimal with them, so much that I was unhappy with the exhaust and wanted more interior noise.

My '07 now has a 4x14 single Magnapack muffler and it is louder inside than the true dualed 11"s were, but not as loud inside as the true dualed Dynomax Bullets were. Pretty happy medium.
