New F150 with 5.0 liter V8

I have a new 2011 F150 with a 5.0 liter V8, SuperCab (extended cab) with 6.5 foot bed. I want to go with a custom exhaust system on it. Is anyone familiar or has anyone used an aFe cat back exhaust on their F150? The one I'm looking at is aFe-49-43033. I talked to an aFe Customer Service guy this morning and he said to expect about 40% more exhaust flow and about 5 to 8 more HP and torque, and said it would be about 20% louder than stock. Anyone used this product before or do you know anyone that has used it? And comments are welcome. Thanks

This is the most economical solution.....

Borla recommended the following muffler for the 2011 5.0L.

P/N-400436, 3" S/I, 3" S/O, 24" x 6.75" Dia. Round, Center/Center (truck applications).

The least expensive price is at Summit Racing.

No real world performance gains from cat back exhaust only sound.....save some coin and just swap the muffler and add a tip.....imo

Well first off welcome to the site. you could just replace the muffler or do what i did and go custom. check out the vid at the bottom of my signature. you can check out you tube to find out what sound you like then go from there. custom building your system and getting a shop to weld it up is usually cheaper and you'll get exactly what you want. read the exhaust guild too it mite give you some ideas.

I wouldn't get that large of a muffler personally. The 19" Borla would due.

I was looking at the AFE catback a few weeks ago and it appears to be a nice set-up. I've had an AFE (C)AI and it was put together very well.

Just put an AFE exhaust (catback on mine) I have the AFE instake as well and a custom tune from JLPRacing.com. Sound is good not to high and great response from the truck.

On the Borla I imagine you have to cut the rear portion going to the tail as it is one piece from the muffler back

i did get one

I did go ahead and get the aFe cat back system a few weeks ago, myself. To install it, one has to remove the resonator - there is a straight pipe from aFe to take the place of the OEM resonator. The aFe muffler, itself, is actually one inch longer than the OEM Ford muffler. I'm not sure I'm making anymore horsepower or torque with the new catback, if so it's very slight. However, the sound is very nice. It's maybe 15% or so louder than stock but with a very deep nice sound. Reminds me of the street rods of the 1950's and 60's. I installed it myself and had to do some modificaton on the hanger bracket on the tailpipe. Used a small air grinder with a very thin blade to cut the bracket off and saved the bracket and moved it about 1 1/2 to 2 inches to get it to fit with the rubber OEM Ford hanger on the truck. Also had to cut about 2 or maybe 3 inches off the end of the tailpipe that fits into the muffler. I used my old Lincoln AC weldor with some stainless steel welding electrodes that i didn't even remember I had, until I got in my old welding cabinet. they worked fine. Had to weld at 75 amps but the stainless steel electrodes did OK. If you have to do this, you can. Just don't make very slow passes like on mild steel or you'll burn thru the thin exhaust tubing. It's not difficult though. Doing all this did take longer than I expected , though, because I did lots and lots of measuring to make sure i'd make no mistakes in length and did not want to cut the darn thing to short. It all worked out perfectly. I think probably the only thing I got out of this was a certain sound / exhaust note. But I have to admit, everyone of my friends that has ridden in my truck, so far, has loved it - makes 'em smile as it does me too. One can tell there is a V8 under the hood. If I was to go about this again, I'd probably just get a Magnaflow muffler and keep the rest of the original exhaust. Or maybe, I'd just get the aFe muffler alone and adapt it to the OEM exhaust. Doesn't really matter now what I would do or could do, I've already done it and for the most part I'm happy with it. Deep sexy sound that's not too loud or obnoxious. Also have a Superchips performance tuner for it and by the way I did get that new travel trailer. It's a 285RLS Shadow Cruiser manufactured by Cruiser RV. It's an ultra lightweight and can be towed by my new truck. 32 feet from front of hitch to rear or trailer, 28' and 4 inches of living space w/out the hitch. And yes I still plan on towing to Texas in the winter with travel trailer on behind and my Triumph Bonneville T100 in the bed of my truck. I should be well under the Ford towing specs of 9500 lbs. for my truck.

5.0 liter, extended cab, 6 1/2 foot bed, 20 inch chrome factory Ford wheels, aFe catback exhaust, sprayed on bedliner, Superchips performance tuner, and just got two Firestone airbags for the rear axle to make sure the truck is level when towing. Also have two anti sway bars with a weight distribution hitch for the travel tralier. Who knows, I may make a permanent move from central Illinois to Texas someday.

Mine 2011 4x4 screw 5 1/2 had to cut the pipe to the resonator by 10.5 inches thats it fitted perfectly
