Hi flow cats with stock 5.4 muffler

Has anybody done this out of curiosity? I honestly don't know if this would be pointless due to the potentially restrictive stock exhaust or not?

I wouldn't mind increased flow along with a bit more sound and zero drone.

My concern is that it would make the tone more raspy as opposed to deeper.

Anyone tried this combo?

Do you guys with free flowing exhausts notice much of a difference in throttle response or is it 99% for sound?

Not worth the money with a stock muffler.

Very little increase in response, but I love the noise!

It would probably just sound louder than stock... probably the loudness of a chevy or dodge from the factory

im wondering the same thing. My ford cats went bad again and im not replacing them with ford ones....again. im thinking maggie 94136 for about $80 each. i dont care for a louder exhaust note or anything because i have a stock exhaust and i just want to fix it cheaply without a CEL light and still pass inspection every year. Will this work?

x2, should be just as you described John, except it won't sound deep toned like, like OEM GM & Dodge V8s sound with stock. There is no bass to the Ford OEM mufflers. Mine sounds kind of like a Corsa grumble on my custom tuned pcm and 'chrome pkg exit tip' setup on my '07 however, just not so much when warm or going down the road .

Overall, if you want to replace them for sound only, don't bother.

If you want to replace them for performance gain, still don't bother. OEM cats do flow quite well, they just restrict a good amount of volume, it is how they were designed, to help eliminate sound.

If you have bad cats and need to replace them asap, go for the Magnaflow hi-flows and save some bucks.

You can't go wrong with magnaflow 94106... Just a universal cat and easy to install with the right truck lift and welder.

You sure you don't have bad injectors?....cats getting toasted is a sign of that

Also what's the dtc code that's causing the cel light?
