The big debate with me is I'd have to get someone to do the install. With a complete kit I could have Patman do the install but with a pieced together kit I'd have to get a muffler shop do the install. I trust Patman's work.

Though more expensive I'd better go with my first option, and go from there. So much to think about here. :o

good luck finding a muffler shop that will install them. Just let them cut and weld from cat back if your system doesnt line up correctly.

02 sensors are really picky, i prefer actual plug in extensions over soldering in extension wires.

You could always extend the fronts, gotts mod the rears and not worry about getting a catalyst inefficiency code with the OBX cats, and save out on a second set of extensions.

I highly recommend the OEM Ford exhaust gaskets, as mentioned in my PM

Why not just go have troyer do it? Or another company like that?

On my 04 I only had to extend 3 of the 4 oxygen sensors I believe. I also may not have had to do one but I put my wideband in a premade bung. With no cats my dual 14" mufflers (maggies) were way to loud. With big cats or adding some magnapacks could help keep it quiet. Taking the old manifolds out sucks, but the headers fit perfectly and easily. I just extended the 02 wires myself using wire and butt connectors. I made them like 18" longer or something so I could route them however I wanted. Never had the check engine light on either for the no cats due to the Gotts o2 mod that I found on this site.

Just put the lt's and cats on and drive to a muffler shop with no cat back and have them weld it up.

The headers aren't hard to install, just take time...

I bet now I could install them in 4-5 hours pretty easily.

I'm glad I found this thread. I am lining up a time with my buddy to install everything I have. He has a lift we can use so hopefully that will make it easier. What tools do I need for the headers? Anything specific or uncommon? I am installing OBX LTs, I bought a pair of 18 inch o2 extensions (do i need more?) Flowmaster 50 SUV muffler, Flo-Pro gaskets, 18 inch exhaust tip, stainless hardware to bolt up headers, Roush CAI, and Gryphon with custom tunes from PHP. Anything else I need that I'm missing?

Below is a thread by FATHERFORD that I have bookmarked. Pretty much all the info you need is in there, with install tips. Enjoy!

Get rid of those flowmasters and get yourself a real mans muffler and THEN youll be set.

Don't forget to have him shut off the rear 02 sensors on the tune or do the gotts 02 mod with some spark plug non foulers drilled out to the appropriate size for a good reading.

Depending on your truck you may or may not need more o2 extensions

Stealth is right on, I too had and have that thread bookmarked!

The hardest part about the headers is that damn starter bolt, otherwise its pretty straight forward

Some people have to jack the engine up a few inches, I didn't have to on my truck. Also helps to have the truck on a lift or jack stands with support and take the front wheels off.

If you want to keep the clips holding the fender liner get the tool that doesn't break them, not sure on the name, but that helps a lot with removing them and not breaking the clips.

Good luck and be sure to have a six pack or two handy for during and after the install

Hi,

I did the OBX LT's install on my truck about 3 months ago with 60k on the truck, all the studs but one came out like nothing. I didn't need to remove the starter at all to get them in, but did have to jack the passenger side motor mount up all the way it would go to get at the bolts on the bottom. I also had to extend all 4 O2 sensors, and did the gotts mod on the rears with no codes yet. They are definately louder than before, running them with no cats and through a Cherry Bomb Vortex muffler. Thanks again to everyone as the job was much easier, and I probably would not have done it without the info I found here. Anyway Good Luck!

Well, my exhaust manifold leak is not getting any better so I'll be getting the ball rolling on this sooner rather than later...

Lining up info and part procurement...

May be in the running for 2012's best sounding exhaust after this...
