Tip rotted off. Questions!
Hey guys,
So the 12" tip on my '98's SISO Flowmaster setup rusted off, tip fell right off about 1/4" of pipe before the tip starts. I want to go to SIDO exhaust, but am saving $$ right now for a bumper conversion. (I also don't want to put new tips on with the AK winter about to start). My question is, can I just cut the pipe somewhere under the truck (after the Flowmaster) and call it good? (essentially dump it) or will this effect gas mileage/torque/etc.
Thanks guys!
Jon

Yea you can do that if you dont care how it will sound, flowmasters suck even with tips. if you dump it you may as well put a cape on it and call it super suck. your trying to save money cut your slowmaster off and put a single in single out dynomax bullet on it. there about $60

Tips here in texas from exhaust shop are $80 dumping it with a turndown here is 65 im not trying to be an a$$ just my opinion. dumping it in my opinion makes it pop more sound raspy and bad if you have to keep you flowmaster instead of dumping it have your muffler guy re do your pip to exit right in front of your rear tire that way it wont pop as much and when you re do your tips it will look sharp "lightning style" just running pipe should cost about the same as dumping it,

As for the sound, I love the sound of Flowmaster so as long as it doesn't get too raspy it's not a big deal.

If you want to dump it I'd at least pick up a 90 bend from Schucks and put it on so the exhaust points straight at the ground. Shouldn't be more than 10 bucks including a clamp.

akhunter3, exhaust gases are corrosive.
If it were me, I'ld just get some pipe and extend the rusted off portion back out from under the truck. You don't mind the plain look since your going to redo it anyway. Dumping it after the muffler won't hurt mileage or power .... but it may bath everytghing behind the dump in those gases mile after mile depending on how you do it?
You're kidding aren't you?
Surely you don't think a man who's saving $$ for a new system should spend $60 now on a sucky sounding dynomax bullet (that doesn't fix his rotted off tip either) just to get through the winter when his perfectly good Flowmaster will do the job as well until he puts his new system on?
