False, not all of them sound good. But sounds good, is a very different taste among us all. I for instance hate chambered muffler clack and wrap, glasspack crisp crackle and pop, and un-tamed unprofessional straight pipes. My view of it.

Magnaflow and Borla are the same kind of muffler, both are basically straight through design with packing that helps with resination. I had a borla on another truck before and went magnaflow because its cheaper and the muffler was the same design.

I'll second that, but I don't "hate" chambered mufflers. They just don't sound as good as you know what.

Chambered mufflers produce my favorite sound @ idle. I kind of miss the rumble of my Flowmaster.

^ Ah yes, the idle. I was surprised that mine has as much idle sound as it does.

I just bought a 1993 F150, with a 302. I want to upgrade the exhaust, for performance and sound. Will a Catback setup be sufficient, or is it necessary or worth while to do everything from headers back?

General rule of thumb is to start with the muffler and work your way forward. Of course this is dependent on whether you want a SISO/SIDO type muffler or to go true duals. I personally recommend a SS SIDO Flowmaster 40 series or the new 10 series.

Si/so refers to one inlet and one outlet for the muffler on each end. Si/do refers to one inlet and two outlets on the muffler ends. Si/do allows you to run 2 tailpipes from the muffler, but a y pipe on the outlet part of the muffler fabbed up to tailpipes will accomplish the same thing. Si/do's just have the y pipe built inside.

Hope that helps bud

Gotcha, Im familiar with the different setups, just wasnt familiar with the acronym.

So from what Im reading, I can do the Catback setup first, then look at adding a high flow cat, then possibly the headers?

I dont want to much noise, just a nice grumble. I know replacing the headers creates more noise under the hood, does it really improve perforamnce that much?

i agree with others. start with the cat back system first. then progress forward. from other forms and my understanding to get the best out of your exhaust you should get a programer as well. i added a cold air intake and cat back with a gyrphon programer and have great increase in sound and performance.

Yes exactly chizuck87. You could do the catback and see how you like it. If it is not loud enough, go for hi flow cats. That's exactly what I did. I wish it was still louder at times the more I drive it, but I notice people turning their heads at times when I pull onto a street, especially if they are other car/truck nuts. I had a whole bunch of guys turn and look at my truck when I pulled out of Wal Mart onto the main road last night when they had a truck meet at the local Dunkin' Donuts. Headers sound amazing and I plan on doing them in a few years, but make sure you do it right and get the truck tuned. Tuning is what dials in the mods and makes them worth while. For instance on my generation truck, you gain 30-35hp with Long-tube headers WHEN the truck is tuned for it.
