flow master vs Magna flow

I have a ford f150 supercrew with a 5.4 k&n fipk kit. I put on the 50 series suv and it seems to suck alot of gas. The casing on the flow master is 18" in lenght and is a 3 in and a 3 out with mandrel bent tail pipe. Has anyone had better luck with the magna flow. They have two mufflers that the tech dept suggest 3 in 3 out straight through. One is 18" the other is 22 the differences in size is only for sound they both perform the same per the tech line. Flow masters tech line suggested the suv and it SUCKS.

Magnaflow mufflers are straight through, you can see right through the entire muffler. This means that there is no restriction, unlike all Flowmaster mufflers. The only trade off is sound. To some, the Flowmaster sounds better than the Magnaflow, but Magnaflows have a large number of different sounds you can get from their mufflers while Flowmaster has that one sound in all of their mufflers.

Really?!?! You've experienced it too! Finally I don't feel like Im going insane! I originally had the 50 SI/SO on my truck, no pipes with it tho, and my gas mileage was like 12-12.5.... I then had the muffler shop put an SI/DO 50 series on with pipes coming out the back at 45 deg. and my gas mileage went up to 14.5-16.5 depending on what type of driving... I hardly ever spend most of a tank with in town driving... but still. I wonder if I would get better mileage with a magnaflow SI/SO coming out behind the back wheel.... I like having dual exhaust, but Im not as much into looking like I have duals as opposed to actually having good performance. And don't get me wrong... I love the sound of my flowmaster especially on a cold start, and I don't like it too loud either, but I could use better performance than what Im getting.

True, I dont know how though, I for one think Flowmaster sounds too cheap, thin can like.

Magnaflow definitely sounds better, clearer, richer.

Thanks everyone for your input I think I will go back to the Magna Flow. What a waste of money. One more thing the guy that put on the cat back flow master quoted me $140 for a magnaflow muffler only. So I go down to talk to him and he is not there the installer that was ther tells me that he will have to call the owner. Hence the guy that installed the flow master now he says he wants $160 for a muffler only. The installer says he is giving me that price because I was a past customer. Man I felt that one real deep

how do you upgrade to a 3" pipe?... my truck has that stock Y after the cats and then a single 2.5" pipe all the way back to the muffler. I would like get more performance and a deeper tone...

Have an exhaust shop cut the end of your Y pipe and mate 3" pipe straight to a 3" inlet muffler. Running a single 3" pipe to a single muffler will sound better and heavier than 2.5", and perform much better since its a little more open with a better leveled velocity pressure.

okay... Yeah I was thinking about just having an SI/SO put on and just dump the pipe after the axle... Right now my pipes are too low IMO with the body lift on there... Or I might just redo the pipes... Will that setup with the 3" SI/SO magnaflow give me good backpressure? I know I lost backpressure with my 50 series Flowmaster SI/DO which had a 2.5" inlet and I dunno what outlet - I just asked the guy at the muffler shop to put it on and he did everything
