Finally Got my Roush Off-Road Side Exit Exhaust

So I was given the Roush exhaust for my birthday 2 days early and put it on.

After all the hype about how loud the system is I am a bit disappointed but I think I heard they get louder over time due to breaking in. Plus eventually I want to add headers and an intake which will help in the noise department.

Here are some shots.

Side by side - I was really surprised by the size difference in the two systems. I saved a TON of weight just by switching out the exhaust.

Side Exits. I had to do things a little differently on this one due to my AMP steps. The directions tell you to cut off about 6" from the stock pipe and use the remainder to connect the Roush System into place. However I needed mine to go back a little bit further to clear the steps so I only cut off about 3" and moved the rear hanger bracket. The hanger in the middle does not match up due to the shift so I will need to get a hanger welded in at a shop or see if the auto parts store has something I can fab up myself. It does not move right now as it is, but if that rear bushing ever gives then the whole thing will hit the ground.

Underneath shot

Looks like a good install, and wow what a difference wit the Roush Off-Road muffler compered to stock. Thats atleast 3 - 4 Off-Road mufflers lined up to equal the OEM length.

I would say 3 long and 2 tall. So 6 off-road mufflers equals the size of 1 oem muffler.

So that means you have only two cats. This system should louden up after a thousand or so miles and it will growl real nicely.

I cant wait. My last truck was a Hemi Ram with flowmasters and it roared but I wanted something loud that gave performance at the same time so I opted to go with the Roush OR. What sucks is that I am in California so I cannot change out my cats with hi-flows.

I've got a late 2005 w/ 2 cats with the same exhaust and have been a bit disappointed in the sound as well. If the ROR is the loudest catback out there, I would hate to hear the quieter ones. Or should I say, try to hear the quieter ones.

It certainly did get louder after 1000 miles or so, but still not the sound I want. Even with the intake and tuner, still not loud enough. I can't even hear it at all going down the road. I'm sure behind the truck its much louder, but from inside, I would like some noise and be able to hear it.

I've got two hi-flow cats sitting on the shelf waiting to go in and I'm sure will improve the sound quite a bit. If this exhaust would sound all the time like it does when you first cold start it in the morning, I'd be happy as hell.

Looks great man. Now on my list of crap I want but can't afford, lo.

So the earlier trucks with 4 cats will be even quieter?

Yes. The 4 cat systems block quite a bit of flow and resonate alot of sound, thanks to the wonderful emissions packages. All trucks built after Jan 2005 have just two larger cats that to the same exact job with a little less sound kill.

get some mud flaps for the front tires because i have the similar magnaflow system (P#16616) and the front tip is completely covered in stone chips and scratches.
