Does dumping do damage?
i have heard that if you dump(turndown) your exhaust after the muffler that, after many years, the exhaust fumes can start to rot out the under-belley of your truck. Is this true? and if so, is exiting the exhaust away from the body the only way to avoid this problem?
thanks

as my first addition i was thinking of getting a Flowmaster super 44 1 in/2 out

Eventually unapainted or unprotected areas under the body will get rust, is best to exit the exhaust all the way out.

the exhaust on my truck has been dumped with turn downs, then just straight through with tips, and now dumped over the rear axle. I have been running some form of dumped exhaust for the past 4 years on my truck with zero problems from the exhaust being dumped. The only issue i can see is getting tired of the cab noise after a while, which is why mine are now over the rear axle instead of in front of the axle.

I'd imagine that any movement of the truck or any slight breeze is going to carry away those fumes anyway. Also, I can't see water vapor doing much as 1) the metal parts should all be coated and 2) water from the road is going to always be present. So if this water does not cause a problem, I can't see where vapor would.
Granted, exhaust should be routed in such a way so it does not accumulate under the truck. I'd say exhaust router near the back of the truck would probably be safe but there is just something about carbon monoxide and breathing that don't mix.

My dad's truck had a dumped 50 series flowmaster installed when he bought his truck. My last truck had a dumped 40 series flowmaster and my current truck has dual dumped 40 series flowmaster's. Neither truck has experienced any type of under bed rotting. I get underneath my truck alot to check for rust or any other visible problem's and i've never noticed any carbon under the bed's from the exhaust or noticed any type of moisture that has came from the exhaust. So i'll say that claim is false. If your worried about the potential for that problem happening then just get under their with a water hose and wash the undercarriage every once in a while.
