Do some reading of the threads in the intake section. Lots of discussion. You can also use the search feature and check out the intakes by brand name.

Check out the DIY mods in the How To section.

It is all subjective. This is definitely one to do some reading up on as Bluejay suggested. Each have their drawbacks and you need to see what you can live with/without.

I have the JLT, although not enclosed like the S&B but it van be used with a hood scoop. It cost me $200 shipped, however like anyother CAI with the expetion to the Gotts or dwv you need custom tunes to compensate the new air flow in the MAF. In other words if you use it w/o it you will run lean. Good luck.

I have the volant and love it, its enclosed to keep hot air out. Dont like k&n some of the oil used to charge it some times flings off on the maf sensor. Stick with enlcosed box. My 08 has it and flowmaster exaust and have had no issues with being lean , just disconnected the battery during install and put it back. I believe this clears the ecu memory and allows it to learn with the new air flow. Or so ive read and been told. But i love mine. Throttle responce is much improved. Oh also on my volant i got the power core dry filter, dont have to change it for 100,000 miles and designed for better airflow then reg filter that comes with it.

Whatever is enclosed is best imo. Volant, S&B are the leaders. S&B still uses oiled filters and the Volant uses dry flow so Volant is the easiest to maintain.

I towed a minivan home last week with my 08 F150 with the Banks Powerpack kit up and over Messiter Summit which is a long steep climb and I held my speed to 100 klicks over the top

Hey Steph,

I have an 05 xlt, w/5.4 and I got a the S&B CAI, and it really woke up the 5.4.
I just added a banks programmer that I got on sale for $159. from the F150 store.
that also has help with the throttle response.

Here is my modification of the air intake until I decided for a true cold air intake ... just déjas this amendment is a small difference in the response of the pedal.
