Dump Exhaust = Mad Rust!?
Alrighty, thanks to such phenomenal feedback, suggestions and opinions, back in Jan I installed a Magnaflow muffler on my truck. Didn't want anything too loud, just a nice rich deep tone, sounds awesome.
A few months later I decided I wanted a little more sound out of her, as I had gotten "used" to the new sound. I had read a lot on here about folks dumping their exhaust behind the muffler and in front of the rear axle. I went back to my authorized Magnaflow guy and asked him if he'd dump my exhaust for me. He said he'd do it if I really wanted him to, but he cautioned me that in as little as a year, everything under my truck would start rusting. He said it might take a few years, but had seen it get pretty bad in just a year on some vehicles.
So, I implore my fellow F150 fans for advice again, do you think this is a warning worth heeding? Or, was this guy just about to go on vacation and didn't want to do any more work that day? Let me know what you think, also if you think it would make a considerable difference in sound, or if it's not worth losing any sleep over. Thanks!

Well that's good to know. Did you dump it when you put the muffler on, or dump it later? You think for sound quality difference it's worth the labor? Thinking about doing it myself...
Yes, it's worth heeding. I did this on my little Nissan. My muffler rotted out on it and rather than replacing it, I just removed everything behind the cat. Sounded cool. Nice deep rumble for a little 3 liter V-6. Screamed like a banshee when you got up in the rpms. However, a couple years down the road, everything from the back of my cab to the rear bumper was badly rusted. Ended up with cancer holes in the bed. it was horrible. If you plan to own this truck for a long time, listen to your muffler guy.
It's 'plausable' for sure IMO... Exhaust out the tailpipe is very 'wet', especially up to the point where the entire system is up to full operating temps.
I'm sure your exhaust guy was just relaying info that he has witnessed from other setups in the past... And, he didn't want you coming back in a year or so complaining that the underside of your truck is all rusted!
Also, exhaust gas would be a little corrosive as well.... When you dump it in front of the rear axle, it's gotta go somewhere and there is a lot of metal under there....
Sure, it's a great thing to do when you are in HIGHSCHOOL! ha, ha.... Hell, it's almost expected to dump your exhaust right out of the muffler if you can!

I graduated almost a month ago thank you very much

but on the sound quality side, yes i do prefer it over duals
another guy that went to my school had an identical truck as mine with the same muffler that was dualed straight out the back and mine was definately louder and had a deeper rumble
BTW while i was puttin some lowering shackles on this morning the only place i noticed some rust under my truck was right in front of my rear bumper, and presently its only surface rust..
I guess now I just need to decide how long I'm going to hang onto her then huh? The 09's sure look tight!

I would keep a tip on. Its much nicer looking under a truck and seeing a black frame & axle and the original paint of the under body. Cheaper to replace rusted tailpipes than to buy a whole new truck too. These trucks look so good with exhaust tips anyways.

Well true, but Flowmaster making better air flow.. not so much but definitely better than stock. I'm doing the Super 44s on my truck, its just about sound.

Yeah I know what you mean. Moneys tight anymore. I've been waiting quite awhile to get my work done as is.
