Flowmaster must go. Need Help.
I have had my Flowmaster for 2 years and I can't take it anymore. Need a replacement, but don't know what. Only other Mod: Edge set to level 2.
Current:
Flowmaster Force II SOS kit. 50 series muffler (3" in / 3" out)
Complaints:
Worse low end power than stock.
Maybe a little too loud. 2001 Ford had a 70 series dual out side and it performed better and was less loud.
Some drone at 1500-1800 RPM
Desires:
Mellow rumble (no cackle)
Better performance
Questions:
Is the power loss the muffler or 3" pipes?
Can my desires be accomplished with just a muffler replacement?
If so, what muffler? Everyone recommends Magnaflow. I just don't know the size. Keep in mind, I don't want loud.

Well for one thing your not going to get much performance out of an exhaust system unless u touch the intake, and your are not going to feel a difference in 5-10 ft lbs of torque on a 5-6 thousand pound truck . But besides that i wouldn't do 3 inch in 3 inch out i would do 3 inch in and 2.5 out. Im not really sure on what size Magnaflow others can probably help.

Based on some of the feedback, is it best to scrap my entire current system and choose something else? I really liked my system on my old pickup so I only shopped Flowmaster, but I wanted a single out side. Instead of shopping custom, I went with their only kit. Just not working out.

You'll be fine with a 3" system. Actually Troyer recommends a 3" Magnaflow SISO system. It's proven to add torque everywhere in the rpm range. You may or may not notice a difference over stock, but at least you know ou haven't lost anything. It's a 4x8x24 inch muffler so it should be pretty quiet. A touch louder than stock but more aggressive sounding. The catback kit number is 15821 for you truck providing it's not the Heritage model. but since you apparently already have 3" piping just buy a muffler and put in it the existing mufflers place. You might need ot have the pipes worked a bit though depending on how big the current muffler is and where the inlet and outlet are.

x 2. I had a SI/DO (same side in front of the rear axle) 18" Maggie installed on my truck yesterday. I switched out a Flowmaster Super40 for this system. I love it. It's mellow but has a nice deep sound that can roar when you're on the accelerator.....and the best part (for me anyways)....NO DRONE!!! Good luck to you.

Obviously everyone is going to have alot of opinions, I think Magnaflow will be the most popular, but for what you're looking for, JBA makes a good system. Mine a K&N branded made by JBA and was alot cheaper for the exact same thing basically. Plus, my most important is it's stainless, kinda important with salty winters. It is loud, but more rumbly where the flow is cracky. I definetely felt no loss but to say gained would be like splitting hairs.
