I use the Super Chips and reload the performance program. It erases the on board computer. I ran my truck to work several days ago and now, back home, today. I had trouble getting my expedition up to 100 mph before the Mod. Today, after the Gotts Mod to the air intake, we went over 100 mph. I had to slow as my exit was rapidly approaching. Definitely, a big difference on WOT. I think that is where you will notice it most. I have no idle problems at all. I think disconnecting the battery for those who don't have Super Chips or something to erase the computer is the way to go. Your computer has to relearn your driving, etc. but should except the changes to the air coming in. By the way, those of you doing this or considering, look at your vacuum lines and elbows. My truck is a 1999. Most of the elbows were dry rotted and flattened. Please take a moment to replace the set up. I had to remove and replace with 3/8" line. I used Transmission hose. It is strong, won't collapse under the vacuum, will take the heat and won't be effected by oil residue. I definitely recommend the Gott's mod on the air intake. I am going up on Thursday to haul a 6500 lb camper trailer back. 265 miles. I was looking for a little more power. I will let you know the highway mileage up without a load and back with the trailer. I did my trip to pick up a 6200 lb camper. I did 65-70 mph the whole way which included many stops for the kids to use the potty. I achieved 16.8 mpg. This was the same without the Gott's Mod. 8 mpg was achieved with the camper. Slowest speed was 50 mph to a max of 72 mph. These fluctuations were due to the rolling hills of Vermont. I do think the truck is more powerful with the Gott's Mod. Glad I did it.

I have a 98 F-150 with the 5.4 and 70,000mi. I changed out the original plugs yesterday and cleaned the MAF and did the intake mod today. I haven't driven enough to know if there is any mileage improvement, but, on what used to be my normal take off, it keeps squealing the tires! So far so good.

Got the exhaust done last week and finished Gotts mod yesterday. I saw some conflicting battery replies in terms of not disconnecting so I didn't. Didn't really note a difference so I went ahead and disconnected battery for about 1/2 and now I definitely notice a bit quicker throttle response and smoother shifting. Have had it past 3500rpm yet which is where I've read I'll notice the biggest difference. This is my first post and wanted to say thanks to Gotts, Terajerame and all who contributed.

I was wondering if extending the tube in close to the wheel well wall and cutting out the bottom and forward facing parts of the tube to create a scoop would be worth while, I'm not sure if the intake sucks the air in that goes past the hole or if it is just catching air
i started to work on leftover tubing to take a pic and post, but i'd rather get an opinion on it 1st

did the mod feel the difference more when i try passing on highway does it more easily thinking of removing silencer not sure yet plus only runing on paper filter hoping of getting k&n pretty soon and hope feel more difference i have flowmasters and after doing this the truck idles more quitly like if it turn off then i push gas and sounds loud it pretty cool i guess less noise in cab now

After finishing the modification I was wondering if anyone has tried wrapping the airbox and tube with something to keep it cooler. I was thinking about aluminum tape or header wrap. If this has already been mention forgive me I over looked it.

When I woke up this morning I didn't even plan on doing this mod. I didn't even really know that much about it, honestly. But during my morning routine, browsing through the forums, I came across it and read everything I could find on it. After a quick trip to the hardware store and 20 bucks later, I put forth about an hour and a half of my time, and it's done! It's great! Most of the time was spent on dremmeling the pipe to make the outside diameter smaller so it fits through the fender hole. I also made sure to disconnect the battery for about a hour too, to reset the ECU. The mod works amazingly and I definitely notice the difference. The power, response, and smoothness is much improved. Any day you increase the power or performance of an engine is a good day! I also cleaned the MAF for the first time in the truck's life (90,000km) with CRC mass-airflow cleaner. I also had brand new motorcraft plugs and new COPs put in very recently too, so this thing runs like a DREAM. Thanks so much Gotts and everyone else who has contributed. Great mod for sure!
