I went with the Magnaflow becaused I wanted something a little but more mellow than the Flowaster....( it least it sounds that way to me)

I heard an FX4 in the shop today, SIDO, it was ok but a bit too loud for me...personally I think a Flowmaster sounds best when there is a big nasty cam spewing exhaust at it These trucks just don't have that kind of sound....

It's really all about what suits you and what sound you're looking for when it comes down to it.....

Hey Spinal - I just put a Magnaflow on my 2001 f150 (5.4ltr) with all the stock piping. It definitely will not be "too loud". In fact, I was surprised how quiet it still was. However, I have put around 400 miles on it since friday, and the Maggie has opened up with a little bit more growl already. If you want something that has a nice growl, but isn't obnoxious and doesn't drone - I suggest the Magnaflow.

BTW - there is a thread that has some links to different places you can hear exhaust sounds. Just do a search and it should come up. I thought the Magnaflow had a better sound than the Flowmaster personally. Although it is hard to tell from the speakers in my laptop.

Good luck.

"Drone" is an obnoxious noise an overly loud muffler can make inside the cab. It kind of resonates. Not what you are looking for, from the sounds of it. The Magnaflow has not drone (at least with the stock piping). Hell, the 33" meats I have on the rig make more sound in-cab than the Magnaflow.

OK, now I'll get into some details. I have an 18" magnaflow muffler welded inplace of the stock one. It is not real loud except when the throttle is hit pretty hard. Deep muscular sounding.

Drone is an exhaust tone heard inside the cab, kind of a resonance sound. It irritates some people. Mine has no drone to me, but I can hear it (the muffler) driving at say 70 mph. Drone to other people may not be drone to you or me.

The muffler sounds very good and is stainless. I don't think flowmasters are stainless steel.

Listen to both mufflers. It's all about what you like.

the sound of the magnaflow is the best out there in my opinion. It could be a little louder but the actual sound quality is awesome and matches these trucks perfect. The flowmaster is loud but thats it.The sound it makes doesnt match our trucks. Remember this is jusy my opinion. Cause this post could get bad with the debating.
