cruse control intermittent 2004 5.4

read for days now.... usually same fix, mines different...

sometimes i can get it to turn on... cruse for about 10 min, then off.... sometime it will come back... but usually not.

2004 F150 lariat. 5.4 V8 Auto.

Replaced both switches at brake peddle under dash, (brake switch and CC switch I believe). Checked all 3 brake lights, and all work, no LED's. Horn works fine. all connectors tight. do not believe it could be the computer "not check to be there, ie not turned on, or seen as an option" as "sometimes" i can get it to work and turn on. no coeds, ABS works fine.. no lights

can shift it out of park without depressing brake.

this seems to be a very common problem, but never an answer.... , at least the results/answers are never posted...

Paul did you ever get an answer? Mine is doing same thing same year. work one day and not the next. when it did work did not work long. about two weeks ago, had engine sprayed off, now it has worked almost everyday and stays on all the way to work about 40 miles. sure it is a coincidence

Isn't this a clue? I believe the cruise control system "sees" your brake pedal being depressed momentarily at times, which, of course, causes the CC to disengage. I know I cannot shift my truck out of park without depressing the brake pedal, so, your truck thinks yours is depressed!

Now, I know you replaced the switches, but isn't there an adjustment in their mounting positions?

I seem to recall there being a switch at the master cylinder too. Check that one out if there's one there.

The one that activates the brake lights may not be the one that disengages the CC.

The only other thing that is likely to cause the CC to drop out is a brakelight that intermittently fails, possibly due to a poor ground. But, that should not effect shifting out of park.

Hey guys, I have a 2004 4x4 lariot. I have the same trouble with CC. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Some time it comes on for a sec and then deactivates. I went to advance auto to buy a deactivation switch and change it out (because it was cheap and easy to change per utube) but when I looked there was nothing attached to the master cylinder. I even got a guy from AA to look. Not there Ford changed it. i believe the deactivation switch is on the brake pedal arm. At least on mine. i have seen a thousand threads on this, but everytime I think I found something its different than mine

going from your profile, you have the deactivation switch on the brake pedal arm.
- the secondary CC disconnect switch on the master cylinder is the up to 2003 ( and 2004 L and Heritage ) series.

You can get one of these, but do not push the plunger before installing it, they are self adjusting after being mounted. If they are cycled before had, it might not work correctly.

The next things to check, are all of you stop lamps working ?
- BTW : Do you have any modifications done to them, LED or similar ?

one additional FYI. I drive about 30 miles on the interstate to work. It normally works all the way to work in the morning (6am), and hardly ever works on the way home in the afternoon. If it does, it normally cuts off after about 10 miles. On weekends driving during the day, never works. Thats weird.

Are parts 1 & 2 the disconnect switch or two different parts?

Thank you for your help

Could be the brake interlock switch

There was a tsb on some 2004 models with the counsel shift but i wouldn't rule out ones with column shift either....
