Angry Door Adjar

Why is my door adjar light stay on? It doesn't do it all the time just usually in the morning and also after I have been driving for a while. It keeps the Dome light on until the auto turn off mechinism turnes it off.
Has anyone else had this trouble. What did you do to fix it?

The key to the WD-40 repair trick is to use a sufficient amount of it to wash out the dirt from the switch. You probably want to leave the door open and line the baseboard with oil proof sheeting because the WD-40 will surely drip out the bottom of the door for a short while.

Sounds like the switch in the door is sticking. It's mounted inside the door on/near the latch. Some folks have reported success fixing this problem by flooding the door latch area with WD-40 and then cycling the switch by opening and closing the door a dozen or so times.

Hope this helps. I haven't tried myself, my door switches are still working.

I went to radio shack and bought TV Tuner Control Cleaner & Lubricant. Cost 7.99. Saturate the latch on the door, then open and close the door a bunch of times. Can says safe on plastic. If its safe to spray inside a TV it shouldn't damage your truck. Oh yeah the can also says to unplug the truck from 110 volt outlet before spraying and to check owner's manual before using on expensive equipment.

I just replace the door ajar switch in my driver side door this weekend. The part cost about 10 bucks. It fixed the problem. What happens is that the switch sits vertically right under the latch, and is actually mounted into the latch. Dirt gets past the pin switch and runs down and builds up in the bottom of the switch and prevents the pin frog moving all the way back up when the door is shut. WD-40 is the worst thing you could spray because when it dries it turns into a sticky residue which gums up the switch and attracks dirt.

What did you have to do to get to the part.
Take off interior panels? What kind of tools did you use not to mess up your interior panel?

I had the same problem with my truck, the door ajar light was staying on and the dome light was on. It happened a couple of times and did not know what to do. I used WD-40 with the red extender straw to really get it in the door latch and sprayed the hell out of it. that was about 3 months ago maybe? problem has not re-occoured yet.

Hi jwarpe,
After you pop the triangle and the verticle piece of trim off the top of the door panel which are held in using a couple clips (No tools Required), Pop up the power doorlock and window switch cluster held in by the sane type of clips (No tools needed but kind of tight). Undo the electrical connections to the switches. Remove the little round cover next to the handle and unscrew the bolt holding the handle on. You don't need to completly remove the bolt. Pull the handel through and set it aside. Finally remove the push pins at the top of the door panel at the front and back of the door, then lift the whole panel up about 2"and pull back toward you. Be sure to unhooke the light bulb in the door by rotating the fixture 90 degrees. Taking out the latch and door lock actuator is a whole different story. Let me know!

Almost forgot,
I went to the Ford Dealer and got the part. If you want the part number let me know, I have it out in my truck.

Question

I've noticed that my door adjar light can stay on some times after closing the door. It is usually a random occurrence with the exception at night (cool environment garage) and can be triggered by either door. This is interesting because rarely do I open my passenger door to allow entry of dirt.

In addition, the dome light sometimes extinguishes 2 minutes before the door adjar light goes out. I am starting to think the GEM (generic electronic module), which controls these functions in addition to others, is a little wacked out. Perhaps one or two of the internal circuits is partially defective due to manufacturing quality, causing improper operation, who knows...

I've seen many of these modules go bad on other Ford product lines such as early to mid 90's taurus, town cars, crown vics, etc... A common sympton was that windshield wipers would stick midway thru their cycle.
