Viper 5901
Viper 5901
Does anyone have the Viper 5901 system? I'm just wondering if I should go pay $680 for the system, bypass and installation, which includes lifetime warranty at the shop I'm looking at. I want a remote start, because in NC it's getting extremely cold, and usually I go outside, start my truck, and just roll. I know it's bad to driver on a cold engine, so, I want to take care of my engine to make it last longer. Just asking the people of F150online if I should get it or not. I have no knowledge in electrical crap, only thing I know how to put in is a deck. I just want to make sure it gets done correctly, the shop personnel have over 25yrs in audio and security systems. I'm planning on getting it put in tomorrow.

ur getting ripped off by spending that much. shops should only charge $100 to install, usually. Never buy anything from audio shops, they have to make money, therefore charging you more. Ebay has the 5901 for $200-$220. you shouldnt pay more than $400 installed. the only thing you are getting from the shop is the lifetime warranty, but for almost 300$? no thanks.

Myth: Let your engine warm up for several minutes before driving.
Reality: That might have been good advice for yesteryear's cars but is less so today. Modern engines warm up more quickly when they're driven. And the sooner they warm up, the sooner they reach maximum efficiency and deliver the best fuel economy and performance. But don't rev the engine high over the first few miles while it's warming up
But, if it's freezing outside, and I have to sit in my car that has been freezing over night, then I'm freezing waiting for it to warm up. Also, if it is warming up, I'll get the best fuel economy and performance right from the start, right?
You're getting 0 MPG while it sits there warming up.
When I lived in WI, I started the truck, waited about 30 seconds, and slowly drove away (low speed and RPMs).
I live in NC now (near Concord) and follow the same routine. It's about 1/2 mile to get out of my subdivision. I don't "gun it" until I've travelled about 2 miles.
If you're warming it up because you're cold, that's your choice - the truck doesn't need it.

My Lariat has heated and cooled seats (which my boys promptly named "baked beans" and "snow *****") so I guess I've gotten spoiled.
I'm headed to Lake Norman for some striper fishing tomorrow. Gonna be cold no matter what I wear!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

the 5901 is overpriced because of the "HD" remote.....get yourself the 5701 on Ebay for less....install it and eventually get the iPhone app add on that'll let you start the car from wherever in the world that you have service
