Where to get DRL parts for '06 S-Crew?

OK, I have looked at the Tech Article:
http://prweb0.voicenet.com/~storm/drl/

I am now trying to find the parts.

My local dealer is no help at all. Gave them the part numbers and they still won't order it and give me a credit if the parts they order are wrong. Weird!

Here are the parts...

Relay Block - Ford Part Number YL1Z-13B218-AA
Resistor - Ford Part Number XL3Z-14A601-AA

Sheesh, finding a part for the space shuttle couldn't be this hard!

Thanks,

-Mark-

Mark, I don't think you can quite do this mod on your truck the way the article shows. If you look at the plug behind the headlight, I think you'll find it is not wired for DRLs (unless your truck came from Canada, and then you'd have DRLs already).

But, all is not lost. I think you need part number F6SZ13B218AA and you can order it here (as I did): http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214072

But - there MAY be one catch. The ones shown there don't seem to be right for 2006 trucks WITH autolights, which I assume yours has. Mine has autolights and the module worked fine. I'd call them and verify it's the right part before you order.

Installation involves cutting into a few wires behind the dash, but it's a pretty easy afternoon job. The result is a TRUE DRL system - lights operate at 60% brightness during the day, they go off if you set the parking brake and come on full bright automatically at night.

Thanks

Thanks guys, you're awesome.

Looks like I have more to go on now.

Trademotion has a kit:

Description Qty MSRP Price Your Price Core Price Total Cost
Collision Catalog - 2006 - Ford - F-150
Electrical, Daytime running lamp components, Accessory kit, W/autolamps, W/autolamps $69.46

No P/N? Hmmm...

I will give them a call tomorrow and see what this kit is.

I'll keep you posted.

Make sure this is using as much of the factory wiring as it can. I know the autolamps add on kit uses a stick on sensor on the dash, instead of using the factory location sensor.

Just something to make sure of, but the DRLs are mostly hidden, so the add on parts might not have that much of an impact.

If this is like my DRL module Steve, it's a small (about 2 x 2) box with six or seven wires coming out that are spliced into various wires behind the dash or in the steering column. I mounted the box on the parking brake bracket.

Mark, the price you're getting from Trademotion is pretty much the MSRP for the unit. Millennium Ford sells it for $59, but verify it's the one you want (I'm sure you must have autolamps).

Good to know jack, thanks for the info.
I know the 99-03 add on for the autolamps ( not the same item ) was a spit, toilet paper & duct tape add on item. Kind of worked poor, and looked like crap.
The DRL resistor is in the 2"x2" box ? With it on the parking brake bracket, should not be an issue, but does that thing get hot in there ?
That is why they mounted the DRL resistor next to headlamp housing, out in the air flow on the factory setup.

Good question, Steve. I've never felt the thing. I KNOW it's supposed to be mounted in the cab though. (The directions say to mount it on the firewall, but I couldn't see how to do that so easily. So, I just drilled two small holes in the brake bracket and bolted it on there.)

The result was pretty tidy. I taped the wires from it to existing wire bundles using that new, non-sticky "stretch" tape and wire ties so nothing hangs down or looks bad. Here's a picture:

As you can see, it has it's own fuse. Upon looking at the box though, I think the dimensions are about 1.5 x 2.5 x 1.
