e brake light
e brake light
i have a 97 ford f150 xl 4.2L reg cab short box. i bought it used from a kid who was hard on it. just had all the brake components replaced. rotors, calipers, drums, both rear e-brake cables, etc.
now heres the problem.
the parking brake light does not come on when brake is engaged. all light bulbs and fuses have been replaced. light does not come on when key is on position but does come on when truck is being started and then shuts off agian. i am just wondering if when the kid did e-brake burn outs if he may have broke some kind of sensor that sends the signal to the bulb when the parking brake is engaged or did the brake shop just not hook something back up.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, mike.

Mine did this, all the problem was is the switch on the pedal assembly. Little thing hard as hell to reach but not impossible. Buy one then go look for it and it's orientation on the assembly.
I had issue with moisture under the dash (windsheild) and the switch got a little surface rust on it which prevented it from popping out and turning on the light when the pedel was despressed. A little PB blaster (very little) on the switch and working the switch on and off worked it free. Had to do it a couple of times, hopefully that will help.
you're looking for a white plastic switch straight up from your pedal. I took my kick panel off thinking I would need too. If you can find it, try the spray first if not, replace it. Pretty easy to figure out disassembling, just hard to do.
perfect. i asked the guys who did the brakes and they said if you can deal without it then dont bother. too much work. but i figure if i am gonna replace everything on the truck then i want everything else to work. well thanks for the help, i'll give it a try the next time i get a chance.
oh and what is PB Blaster?
