Keyless Entry Pad Not Working...Any Ideas?
On my 03 Screw, I have the Keyless Pad Entry on the driver's door. It is OEM, not aftermarket. I have always used the factory code and never changed it.
So last night, I am installing my new speakers and I lock my keys in my car. No worries, I have keyless entry. Well, I punched in the code and nothing. My code is a 5 sequence # system and again, it's the factory code. The 7-8 button doesn't seem to respond. I hit that button because my first digit is a 7 and no light comes on. I then move to the second digit (#1) and then all the buttons light up, including the 7-8 button. However, 7-8 is not registering. Strange because the light comes on on the button.
Any ideas? I had noticed over time when I first got the truck that the 7-8 button was a little fussy, I had to surpress it pretty hard to get it to register. Over the last month or so, it isn't even registering but still lights up when the other buttons are hit. Is the button worn out or something? I have no clue on how to fix this.
BTW - I was able to pop the lock and get my keys out, but it took some time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Well if that's the case, is this something that is relatively easy to install myself, or am I in for a major headache? I would rate me about a 6 or so on a scale of 1-10 as far as mechanical ability goes...

You have only ONE key for your truck?
If I were you, I'd get two more of these PATS keys right away, and make sure they are "coded" to start your truck. It may cost you a bit to get the first of these new keys coded - consider it money well spent. After it is coded, you can code the third one yourself - directions are in the Owner's Manual.
You can, of course, get a "standard" key cut that will open your door if you ever lock your "driving" key inside, but it will not work in the ignition.
And - sorry if I'm being a "KnowItAll" here. Just ignore me if you've handled this already.

im gonna take a guess and say that your current code uses the 7/8 button twice. im not trying to be a know it all either but u should really try to uses all 5 buttons.
2 reasons:
1: so that as the buttons fade/wear out from you touching them they fade/wear out at the same rate.
2: so that the contacts inside the buttons get used equally as well and prolong the life of the whole keypad.

You guys are right. Yes, I only have 1 key and do need to get at least one more, if not 2. I learned that the hard way Tuesday night. And I do have 2 7s in my 5 digit code. That's a good idea about using all of them to keep the connectors fresh.

You might also want to try for a locksmith that does PATS keys, and has the NGS XL Transponder Programmer the truck ( to erase the keys programmed, add in the key you have and the new one(s) ), which could be cheaper then the dealer.

My 2nd album ( Interior Pics ) has 12 pictures of some of the differences with the SCrew install that I took from adding this feature to my 2001 SCrew.
This shows how to get the door handle out, and back in again. The key pad unplugs from the harness in the door, and it is 2 bolts on the back of the door handle.
