Thanks, I was wondering what you mean by reset. The adding of a personal code is in addition to the factory code.

owners manual starting on page 71 describes this process.

Don't have an owners manual, download one here :

Question To SSCULLY

Hi, I was searching the forums for info on installing the perimeter lighting option. I have a square cutout on the bottom of my mirror but no light.
Q1. Are the wires for perimeter lighting in the plug already for the mirror?
If not, Im sure I can figure out how to get them there w/ a few pointers from you.( I can tell you know a lot of stuff

Q2.Can I order the lights seperate, Or do i have to buy new mirrors equipped w/ perimeter lighting

I found this Thread but I cannot read the print on the schematic...

Q1. Are the wires for perimeter lighting in the plug already for the mirror?
I cannot say for sure on those specifically.
I do know when I went looking for the wiring on my '06 Lariat for the power fold item, those were not in the connector up to the mirror head. in the door side of the connector set (or in the mirror side, obviously the motor for it is not in the mirror head ).

The wire you would need to get into the mating connector shown in the picture above is circuit #53, Black w/ light blue stripe to pin #8. This is shown in the diagram in the thread you linked above, as the pentagon ( or close to one, laid on its side ) as Interior lamps 89-1. That is the second box above the ground lines towards the bottom of the picture ( the 89-1 is kind of blurry )
Also you would need to add the ground to the truck side of the connector pair from pin #11 to the ground splice S600 in the door.

Q2.Can I order the lights separate, Or do i have to buy new mirrors equipped w/ perimeter lighting
I just took another look at oemfordparts.com and fastparts.com and they did not show the separate parts for these, or the glass. Maybe a call or email to them would verify if the perimeter lights could be purchased separately or if you have to get the complete mirror head. The only mirror I know with those is the KingRanch version, with the power fold. I might not have looked well enough.

An idea I don't know if you like :
Get the connector ends off a 04+ F-150 at a bone yard to scavenge the pins.
Install the pair of pins in your connectors for the interior lamp circuit and ground.
Run the interior lamp circuit to the door ( look close at what type door to A pillar connection you have )
And install white LEDs in the square ( that pops off when you take the mirror head off the truck no problem ).
you have enough room for 2 Bulkhead types in that square:
http://www.signaldynamics.com/produc.../indicator.asp
These may or may not put out enough light for your likings, but this gives you another idea rather then purchasing 2 complete mirror heads, unless the power fold is another item you want to add ( think the KR version has it all, pwr, pwr fold, heated, signals, puddle lps ).

Sorry I don't have a better idea here.

if it helps

if anyone else needs this it is so simple you:

1st type in the original code(if you do not know it it is located above where your left foot would be, by the petals on a big white electrical box, they are the big number 5 digits usually)

2nd hit the 1-2 button

3rd typre in new code

4th done it is that simple and both codes work, the original and new one. each time you redu it, it erases the last personal code

minimonster17,
Chances are it is already in the door. My '01 XLT had the connector with what looked like some sort of cap or terminating plug on it :

This connector should be in the speaker opening.
Few pictures and text from when I did my install on my '01 in my interior album.
Watch that picture with the part numbers in it, the door handle is Silver color.

One more question, SSCULLY. In the process of changing out the door handles, installing the new one, the keypad, the wiring, etc., are there any special tools you need (i only saw a pair of needle nose pliers in your pics) or just all basic stuff? it's just that i have never done a keypad before, and all of my prior experiance relates to audio equipment. thanx!

That location is for up to '03 ( and '04 Heritage & L ).

'04 the RAP / CSM was repalced by the BSM/VSM which is located behind your rear seat, about 14" or so over from the left side C-pillar.

Here is a thread that includes a link to a member gallery with the pictures on how to remove the rear seat back to get to the BSM/VSM

Basic tools do the trick. I used the 11" needle nose pilers b/c I have them, and it made it a bit easier to reach into the door opening. I don't know if a normal set of 8" ones would work as well, but I am sure a short grip on the handles ( towards the end ) would do the trick as well.

I got lazy, and double taped a mirror to the inside of the door, rather then hold it. That mirror is from my old visors in my '01 prior to installing the Lincoln Nav dual visors w/ home link.

This allowed me to see what I was doing with the clip on the rod to the interior button / handle.
The remainder was just metric sockets and a swivel if memory serves me correctly ( that was over 4 years ago when I did it ).

Just don't crank the crap out of the bolts holding the handle on, and you will be fine. Working backwards in the mirror was a bit interesting.

One thing, this was on a SCrew, which in the '01-'03 had different doors then the SCab / std cab trucks ( more like an EXPY door ), so if you have a SCab / std it might not be exactly the same.

You'll do fine if you know righty-tighty lefty-loosey

Good luck, and watch your door handle part number suffix for the color code to your truck. The picture for the parts is silver ( YN )
