Wind/Rolling resistance would be the only factor that would change significantly for me.

I add the weight of the trailer to what I'm towing...isn't that how you're supposed to do it?

I know some guys still hot rod their truck no matter what they're hauling, but I don't. If I'm towing it's staying under 60mph, I'm not going WOT before I shift, O/D is off unless I'm on the flats, and I'm monitoring trans/water temp via my A-pillar gauges...

Troyer saying that 1000lbs (An empty trailer!) is too much to tow sounds like he's covering his *** on guys towing 6000lbs at 80mph and blowing their motor going up Grapevine...

I'm not trying to start a pissing match, I just wanted to know where the 2500# limit came from for php vs the 1500# limit from troyer... I know its not anywhere in the owners manual...

I found a sweet dual pyrometer that I might get later this summer...I'll just need another gauge to run next to it now

WHY are you SO intent on towing with a performance tune when professionals are advising you not to? A tow tune is MUCH more suitable for ANY kind of load, a performance tune is for when you are driving it like a car! I know people who use a tow tune for daily driving, because it's written for TORQUE.

No s*it I'm not going to hook up 8000# and do 75 down the highway, but hell, my payload is 2800#

I know all about EGTs, tunes and A/F ratios...I'm just looking for some hard data about why there is a set limit for ALL perf tunes from ALL tuners for ALL trucks....

I gave the link for the PHP weight limit and there's another thread around here that references the #1500 from troyer....

now you ask WHY THE DIFFERENCE?

it probably boils down to the safety factors and limits with what the tuner is comfortable with.....a lot of the tuning is derived from experience and knowledge.....personal preference also...

Take care...

BTW...nice looking gauges....

I never asked what the limit, I asked why they choose 2500lbs...

whatevs, thanks for all the links that say the same thing.

Doesn't matter who I was talking to, let's not get abusive, okay?

As a matter of fact, I *WAS* talking to you, ak_cowboy.

Do what you want, it's your truck.

Sounds like People are questioning the tuners recommendations. Those recommendations are there due to experience and a vast knowledge of how our trucks work. Untill you have that much experience IMHO, I would do what is recommended to you and do said recommendation unless you feel the need to break something. Converter lock up, Shift preasure, shift points, timing and airfuel all change between the two tunes. It comes down to excepting these facts and following the recommendations provided to you. A better tune geared to what you are doing. Safer for your truck, why ask why? Be like Nike... Just Do It

I'm looking into VMP's tunes, how do they compare to everyone else? I'm looking for the most power I can possibly get. I don't tow besides putting my quad in the back so I don't need to worry about a tow tune besides what would already be canned on the tuner. I'm looking for an 87 performance and economy tune and 91 performance. Anybody got any feedback?
