Vmp tune
Vmp tune
I will be getting a custom tune next week. but now I'm trying to decide which tune to get out of the 87 tow/performance or 89tow/performance. every once in a while a tow a boat that weighs 1200 pounds
I have the 87 towing/performance tunes and love them!! I think for the performance, u cant go over 2k lbs. But it only takes 5 minutes to switch (i actually switched mine yesterday)

Great choice in choosing VMP Tuning. I would go with a 87 octane performance, 87 octane towing, and a 93 octane performance tunes.
There will be no problem pulling a 1200# boat with the performance tune. I don't think I would tow more than 2,000-2,500# with the performance tune.

Well I was informed by a very knowledgeable person the reasons of a tow tune.
"The primary reason a performance tune is limited to low or no towing is, A/F's are leaner in a performance tune which puts the EGT's under a load. So if you tow, they can become unsafe at higher loads.
Additionally:
Shift points are lower in a tow tune, 5400 rpms is not advisable while towing
Shift firmness is lower in a tow tune to reduce drivetrain shock
In a tow tune, torque converter lock is held longer and shift schedules are written to hold higher gears longer to minimize downshifting and lock/unlock cycling"
In other words, if your gonna tow, put in your tow tune. The time it takes to load the tune is nothing compared to the damage that can be caused if you don't.
I do alot of towing and once I decide on what package im gonna go with, I will not tow without the tow tune in place. I don't want to look at an expensive repair bill and say "Man, if I would've jus took the 5 minutes it takes to load the tune!" No brainer....
