Vmp tune
the torque tables and shift points are different between performance and tow tunes....that's what dictates the amount of weight that can be pulled....
performance tune pulling weight limits....
troyer....#1500
PHP.....#2500
vmp....#?.....I've never really asked Justin but following the others recomendations it should be about the same...

That's just absurd... My truck is rated to tow 9200lbs, I should be able to tow at least 1/2 that regardless of the tune. I'm not going WOT when towing, so the 5400rpm shift point is moot...

You obviously know nothing of tunes, egts, afrsput your stock tune jb and tow away.
For the life of me, I can't understand why this is even a topic! Unless someone has come up with some magical way of hooking up a trailer by just driving up next to it, why not just take the few extra minutes to load the tow tune? Why push the limits of your drivetrain when its not necessary? I just don't get it....
Wow...soooo glad that you were able to tell me why the limit is 2500#...
No ***** I'm not going to hook up 8000# and do 75 down the highway, but hell, my payload is 2800#
I know all about EGTs, tunes and A/F ratios...I'm just looking for some hard data about why there is a set limit for ALL perf tunes from ALL tuners for ALL trucks....

Explain how a payload of 2000lbs is easier on a truck than towing 800lbs, that I don't understand...

Ok, I see that your talking about the payload of the truck vs the towing. I don't have an answer, except maybe that the load is more balanced when in the truck than on a trailer. Pull vs haul...it's different
fwiw, my payload is closer to 2800#

Well, the general "rule" is very simple - with our performance tunes
you can still load the vehicle up to it's factory rated *on board* rating, either in the cabin or in the bed. But if you are towing, then change to a towing-compatible tune.
* Maybe* you can get away with it at 1000 lb - and maybe you can't. You sure as heck can't tow 3000 lb on a performance tune safely, and doing that and saying it's ok isn't something you want to emulate - their only "evidence" is the fact that their engine hasn't actually blown up yet - and I hope it never does, but irregardless, it's NOT appropriate or safe.
Last - and I will hate myself for saying this -
if we were dealing with only 800 lb
being pulled over basically flat ground for a short distance (say, 10-20 miles), then you might indeed be OK - that is certainly within the realm of possibility.
But I am NEVER going to tell anyone that is in fact OK to go ahead and do as their tuner,

things with a trailer....added rolling resistance and added wind resistance and its weight and payload.....
a payload only will only possibly add wind resistance if tall enough.....
its more of a safety factor than anything else.....
