I saved and read the stickys, weighed my options and wants, talked with folks at Troyers ....
.... and I read postings of those whom were very happy with their custom tunes received in timely fashion as promised ....
.... as well as many from those not so happy having to wait long time for their custom tunes (and then having to wait for tweaks or even total rewrites) ....
.... and I went with the Superchips Flashpaq 1865 for my 07 5.4 and I have been very pleased ever since. It helped power noticeably, better response, better shifting, and even gave me a solid 1.5 mpg mileage increase confirmed with several trials since when used in the 87 octane tune.
They advertise / claim on 2004-08 F150 with 5.4L 3V:
87 oct Perf w/ 6K Tow = 25 hp and 28 ftlbs of torque at the wheels
93 oct Perf w/ No Tow = 27 hp and 30 ftlbs of torque at the wheels
Heavy tow up to MAX 93 oct = 11 hp and 11 ftlbs of torque at the wheels
I use the 87 oct Perf tune, allows up to 6,000 lb towing too. I have never used 93 octane fuel or those two tunes (93 Perf or Heavy Tow) needing it.
Also included is a mileage XS tune which really hurts mileage on these heavy vehicles in the east, though it might help out west on long flat roads?
It has data logging, can read codes, and there are CAI tunes as well. It also can be set up for a small fee to tune two covered vehicles at once. Like $90 extra I think and tune two.
I use a ScanGageII for extra gages and it's transportable between several of my vehicles so I did not need gages in my tuner.

Hypertech max energy programmer
The Max Energy programmer by Hypertech is PN 42003. This unit gives you a tune for regular fuel with gains of 16 HP 28 Ft lbs tq & on premium fuel you get 25 HP 40 TQ. You can adjust shift points, firm up shifts, raise rev limiter, raise speed limiter & recalibrate speedo & odometer for different tires or gear ratios. You can also read DTC's. If you have any questions call Hypertech tech support 901.382.8888.

there is nothing wrong with canned tuning devices it all depends on what you really want for your truck i loved my bully dog triple dog gas and never had any problems with it on my '07 fx4 it increased fuel economy and gave the truck noticeable power, firmer shifting, and i was able to recalibrate my speedo with larger tires it also has an option for different gears as well. price is often a factor for most people as well.

I had the Edge canned tunes for about 31,000 miles and was finally persuded to go for the custom Gryphon tunes. A world of difference. I would hate to go back to the canned tunes. I run an 87 Performance tune that is better than the 91-93 canned tune. I have about 70,000 on the custom tune.
