How much or little MPG increase to expect?

I have been looking at all the post about tuners. If I have to use more expensive gas to MAYBE achieve a minor increase in MPG...is it worth it to go with a tuner?? How much or how little can one get? I know every engine is different as well as driving habits and terrain.

I am not interested in performance but maybe a little towing benefit. What might be my best choice IF I decide to go with one??

2007 F150 Supercab 5.4L.

every one on here, if you are looking for the best results will recomend custom tunning. you can get that done by either...

power hungry performance,
http://dygytalworld.ehost-services139.com/php/

Or

Troyer Preformance,
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi-bin/ppistore.pl

those are at least the Two big names i have seen around and know that have the best results, a friend of mine has Troyer tunes and says he would Never get anything else and Loves them he got 35hp and close to 40lbs of Torque.

hope this helps

Don't forget vmp

A tuner with goods custom tunes will help more than with gas milage. It will help the life of both the motor and tranny. It will also help if towing. The custom tunes can be added or deleted down the road depending on any mods that you do. Especially with long tube headers/exhaust and cai's.

I got a banks engineering, Programmer, and I was finally able to let the truck really run on a trip, I got 18.6 MPG, and drove 410 miles on a tank of 89.
I could of gone further on the tank of fuel, but too many short trips is what brought the mileage down. I normally get about 320 miles to tank.

good luck with your search

VMP custom tuned XCal3 here and I haven't really noticed to much of an increase. Although I haven't driven it like I did either.

hey dont forget too that the higher octane fuel burns slower resulting in better fuel mileage.

Nothing but good things!

It also makes a good conversation piece. I would have gotten it but the size and price turned me off. Went with a gryphon from php instead.
Pros:
6 pids+shift lite
Couple of more tunes than gryphon.
Cons:
Size
Mounting
Price

That's just what I used to make my decision and what I could afford.

Me neither and ditto. A 93 perf tune isn't designed to gain mileage. I've had Edge, Troyer, and VMP and I don't think I saw a fuel increase on any of them with the performance tune.

This is not true. Higher octane fuel requires more compression to self ignite than lower octane fuel. This prevents pre-ignition and allows you to run higher compression and to adjust timing without detonation.

Simply running a higher octane fuel does not increase gas mileage.

City driving I didn't get any mileage increase, even lost some. Gained 1-2 mpgs on the highway though.

My experience might be a bit like Ace85's. I've picked up at least 2 mpg on the highway in long trips (both towing and not towing) over what it was at stock. And, I bought the truck mostly for towing our trailer on trips or when I need the cargo space. I drive it around town as little as possible. And, for in-town driving, I haven't noticed much difference. I wouldn't say the mileage has dropped off there, however.

Additionally though, in highway driving, I have MUCH better passing performance than before, which is important to me since we are on 2-lane roads much of the time to the places we visit.

I just figured my first MPG on a tank of gas. It was town driving with a 60 mile highway trip included. I show 20.7 MPG. IF that is correct, that is pretty good. Completely stock engine.

I'd say all town driving will knock it down around 14-15? That is still much better than my '98 4.2L. It barely got 12-13 ever!
