Edge Attitude????

I have a 04 f 150 screw (new body style)...Im planning on getting the edge put in it within the next couple weeks and Im just wanting to know some pros and cons...Does it really help with horsepower and/or gas milage???? Im buying it and having it installed all for 475.00..Is that good price and is it actually worth the money??? Superchip or hypertech better or just as good?? Just wanting to know before I spent the money

you can buy it for like 375 and install it yourself. It only takes like 10 minutes.

Don't you mean the Edge Evolution? Anyways, it sucks. I had it and ended up getting a custom tuned Xcal2 from VMPTuning.com ... If you want the gauges than get the Gryphon form Power Hungry Performance. It's the same thing as the Edge, it just has custom tunes. Or, you can get a custom tuned Xcal2 or Xcal3 from VMPTuning.com like I said .. Both are great choices. The Xcal2 and Xcal3 is $395-$400 because it doesn't have gauges. The Gryphon is $525 but it comes with gauges. SCT who produces the Xcal2 and Xcal3 also make the Livewire which has gauges. The cool thing about the SCT programmers is that if you sell your truck, you can use the tuner for your new Ford as long as it has the ODBII port which all vehicles from ~1995+ have ... All you have to do is buy new tunes and you'd have a tuned vehicle.

Thumper! Naughty, naughty!

The Gryphon is a mere $495 - with 3 custom tunes and gauges! Not the $525 you quoted. And, for the $495 you get fantastic customer support from Bill and Corey Cohron at PowerHungryPerformance.

The customer support issue is important! At PHP you get someone who listens to you and gets everything working to your satisfaction. That may not be the case at some other places. And, Bill knows the Gryphon inside and out because he designed it!

And to the OP: You install the Gryphon yourself! My 10 year old grandson could do it! DO NOT pay anyone to do this trivial task. The instructions in the manual are clear and easy to follow. No tools are required. It's a 5 minute job, once you understand what has to be done. (Essentially you just have to plug a power/data cord into a socket - duh)!

Oops, my bad. Everyone makes mistakes, has it ever been $525 though? I swear I thought it was $525. Anyways we both know the customer service for both VMP and PHP are damn near identical. So it's basically a $100 difference for the gauges between the Xcal2/3 and Gryphon. I'm not sure how much Justin charges for the Livewire so I can't say anything about that.

Anyways, I completely agree about the installation. There should be NO reason in the world why you'd be paying someone to install any type of programmer. At $475 and you're getting raped like there is no tomorrow for that programmer plus this so called "installation". The programmer plugs into the ODBII port which is located underneath the dash by your knees while you're driving. Look at it tomorrow and I'm sure you'll see it right away. Anyways, you just plug the programmer into that and follow the set of instructions that pop on the programmer. Very easy just like Jack and/or Janet said ...

Is it worth another 100 over the edge to get custom tunes if you don't have other mods like CAI or exhaust?

I do have an edge. I was thinking about sending it to bill, although I haven't been disappointed with it. I am getting 16.2 in town on 88 octane.

Thumper gave you good advice bigjim. But, CALL Bill first and talk to the man. He'll tell you what you are getting for your money and won't try to "talk you into anything" - promise!

Besides the lack of custom tunes for the Edge, their customer service seems, at times, to be "spotty" (according to posts by other members). The posts about PHP, and my own experience with PHP though, say that PHP's customer service is a priority! They really go out of their way to make you happy.

Albritton, I mostly use my truck for towing our trailer. With the canned tow tune, I got about 2mpg better than "stock" and Bill's custom tow tune improved on that by at least another 0.7 mpg (which may not sound like much until you know that it saved me about $42 on a recent 2400 mile trip - almost the cost of the tune).

Thumper, I couldn't resist "pinging" you! The Gryphon has never been above $495 for gas trucks. I wonder if you were thinking of a diesel unit?
