It was common, for instance to lose the attitude indicator during violent maneuvering, and if you did not know you had "tumbled" it, you would simply crash, if you were flying in periods of poor visibility. We lost a guy at night in Vietnam that way.

Of course I know the gauge information is coming from the PCM and it, in turn, is getting input from various sensors. One of the things I don't care for is the fact that coolent temperature is inferred from CHT, so, I monitor CHT (that at least eliminates one programming step). Then, I can crosscheck the oil temperature too. Is it holding values that are consistent with what I'm doing? And, as Bluejay said, having some idea of the transmission temperature might just give me a better idea when it would be good to change the fluid (instead of relying on Ford's terrific guidance). Finally, when I'm pulling the trailer, I'm keeping three batteries charged and running a refrigerator. I'm a lot happier having a digital voltmeter than the "L-H" analog gauge in the dash. I'd actually prefer an ammeter (like the loadmeters we had in planes), but I make do with what I can get.

I guess this is largely philosophical. I'm looking for a complete picture of what's happening and am watching for "trends".

exactly. Makes me feel better whether it should or not.

As for customer service = watch who you deal with, maybe the nut swingers get attention fast but unanswered pm and emails after a month get a little annoying.

I will say one thing, the tune was cheap, worked great and i have had no problem with that except that i dont have it anymore. I will also buy more tunes if i hear from the people who wrote the file that i did have.
I don't get on here to much lately, so I logged in and checked PM's and oddly enough I don't have any from you. As for e-mail, we have explained on a few occasions that our previous ISP was having problems with the way e-mails were being handled, both sending and receiving and we were losing about as many e-mails as we were getting. We have recently switched ISPs and that has also had a few bumps but has been working much better than before.

I'm sorry you weren't happy with your files, or whatever the problem was, as well as the problem of losing your custom file following an update. I've had a couple other people fall into the same trap recently and am making changes to the software to help prevent such misadventures. In any event, I'm sure whatever the problem is it could be easily resolved. Just give us a shout.

Take care.

I sent it to groovy chick because i know your not on here much.

The pm i sent to groovy chick was sent because i knew you were having problems. In the pm i mentioned that i was not trying to pester you as i know your busy, but that i was just making sure my email got through as it had been a month.

O i was perfectly happy on the file you made me, infact i want a tow tune aswell. I drive it on the canned extreme just because the shifting is similar to what you had made me on the street tune. My only concern with the tune is that i dont have it anymore. I would also get a tune/gryphon from you for my lightning if i didnt already have a predator and had spent money on a dyno tune for it.

I actually tried to call but you won't accept blocked phone numbers(my home phone works throught the internet). I'd try calling from work but im not so sure they would like me calling down to the U.S. I'm also only generally home on weekends and i hate bugging people on the weekends, thus i mostly stick to email when possible.

I can send you another email if you like, incase its not there. Plus like i said i would like to get a tow tune from you or atleast let me know what improvments can be made. Just wondering if vgt control could lower some egt's etc.

Thank you.

o and as for the topic, the guages are nice.

I'm curious as to why some say they are inacurate? The tft sensor is in the pan, yes the signal is sent to the pcm then the i/c so on the dash you can get a infered signal. However aslong as the edge is reading off the pcm it should be as accurate as the sensor itself. A cyl head temp sensor is more accurate then an ect sensor, etc.

I'd rely on a ford sensor more then i would then someone who just plumbed one in. Ford actually wories about induced voltages, etc.

btw a iat2 sensor reading would be nice on a diesel

The only people that think the gauges are usless are the people that are not lucky enough to have them.

Oh really? Anthony and myself both have used Edges. We have both seen the difference in these gauges to accurate readings. Sorry ...

Thumper, here I'm going to have to disagree with both you and i.ride.suzuki - or at least talk about what the gauges are telling US.

Frankly, I don't care if the temperature values are dead on or off by, say, 2-4 degrees. It's the trend information that counts. Oh sure, if the values are +/- 50%, I'd probably have trouble with them, but no one has ever implied they are THAT far off.

Some things I can even independently verify, such as charging voltage. The funny little analog gage on the dash is not much help to me. It looks the same all the time. The Gryphon's digital readout is much more useful.

The same with the ECT gauge in my dash - it never moves (once it reaches operating temp). The CHT readout in my Gryphon at least changes in sync with engine load. And the Oil Temp movement really tells me something about the stress I'm putting on the engine.

What else? Does your truck have a tach? Mine does, but for those that don't have one, the Gryphon's is even more informative.

How about the speedometer? I know Ford sets the speedometer about 2 mph high at highway crusing speeds. I've verified this through radar alert signs, GPS measurements and good old time/distance calculations. But, if I wanted it, I could see an accurate speed indication on my Gryphon.

So, it's all about trying to get a "complete" picture of your driving environment. I think the Gryphon's gauges help me do this.

And, maybe it's just a placibo (like Jim said it might be), it makes me feel better too!

Silver, I may be wrong on this, but I think the price you quoted here is way high!

I'm pretty sure Justin charges about the same to do a tune as Bill does.

But, maybe you're just trying to "wind him up" - no harm in that! We've got to keep Thumper on his toes.

He may be talking about the livewire, Jack. I think it was some price close to $900 at one time.

Thanks Jim! Wow, that was an expensive bit of hardware if true. Isn't it much cheaper now?

No, it was never that much. It's around the same price as the Gryphon.

As far as that other turd, I'm not paying any attention to him.

I was kidding, too. I don't take too many people on the interweb serious.

PS: I get beat by F150s all the time in my car. It's really close though. Although my car is only running on one cylinder.
