I'm feeling the same way as you guys about this truck being a turd! After driving a Hemi and going to this, I hate it. So, here I am, like the rest of you, trying to wake it up. Was gonna buy a used XCal3 but lost it. Now I'm thinking of buying one off ebay. I'd save a hundred bucks, but what's the trade-off to that? Why are they that much cheaper? How does the custom tunes work, do you send in the programmer or is it done over the internet or something?

The tuner, whoever you choose, will email you the tune if you already have the tuner.

If you're ordering a tuner as well they'll usually load it on there for you and than ship.

If you buy it on ebay you will still have to order custom tunes if you want them but the xcal3 has canned tunes. If you are after the custom tunes it probably makes sense to purchase from Troyer or VMP and the tunes will be included in their price. You can then use the canned tunes while waiting. They will e-mail the custom tunes and you load them onto the tuner.

FOOTEE,

Make sure if you get a used tuner, that it's not VIN Locked, That'll save you a lot of time, and money, and the BS Hassle of getting it unlocked.

yes it is that bad. It gets worse at elevation. Going to Tahoe or our ranch in Shasta is always an adventure in 3rd gear. Which is why i am having my Flowmaster swapped out this monday. 3rd gear for an hour going up to Tahoe, the drone gives you a huge headache.

I would LOVE a 6 speed.

The Xcal's I'm looking at on ebay are all brand new, but a hundred bucks cheaper than retail. I didn't know if there was a warranty difference or what. I can't get custom tunes yet cause I don't have an intake or exhaust yet. I'm still trying to make some decisions on that stuff, too. This is all just so damned complicated with all the different opinions and all!

I think if you buy a programmer from Justin at VMP, he'll write you one tune included in the price. I'm not positive, just give him a buzz and see what he says.

yes custom tunes are included with VMP when you order you summit mods you have and the Serial # off of the computer and he coustom builds you tunes for the packages you want
Example
87oct performance, 87 tow ,87 gas millage all tuned to your mods or truck.
I stuck with the 87 oct but its your choice

.. and it's included in the price of the tuner alone?

PS: In your signature, you spelled "custom" wrong.
