97-03 Edge Evolution Alpha/Beta testers
Just out of curiosity has anybody tried to get a hold of anybody else at Edge than Rob about these issues? Is he the only person at Edge that can help? I'd really like to see you guys get these issues resolved since I'd like to buy one of these tuners, but I'm starting to have second thoughts.--DIY

Just as an afterthought/comment. Sent an email to Rob today and got a response back within the hour.
Hey ya'll.. Long time-no see. Well, no see ever, but.... Anyway, I called Rob, and as usual, no response. So I talked to a tech about my custom tunes not working, and not being able to change the splash screen etc.. And they said an update would be available this week to fix it. I'm not gonna hold my breath.
I have long since loaded my stock tune back. I rode level 3 for about 2 months on 87 octane fuel, and I decided to try the towing tune for a while. After 2 weeks of jarring my teeth out on every shift, I switched back to the stock tune. I think I'm gonna leave it there. I will admit, Level 3 with high octane fuel is very impressive, but I don't have the dough to waste on high test gas, and I feel apprehensive about continuously running on level 3 with 87 octane.
So, I guess I'm back to where I started. I've been round the "tuning" block, and I'll have to say, that you never realized how nice my truck was until I tuned it back to stock. It shifts so smooth. Yeah, not as much power, but in my old age, with fuel still over $2.00 a gallon, I can't afford power anyway. My gas mileage is considerably less, as compared to the level 3 tune with 87 octane, but breaking my truck is worse than losing 2.5 mpg fuel economy.
So, a summary of my experiences...... I was surprised by the extra power and torque of Level 3, but edge really let me down by not having the one thing I wanted.... Tranny Temp. So I've got a really gaudy engine temp guage on my dash now. Which is kinda silly because the engine temp never changes more than 2 or 4 degrees. And those changes don't correlate to anything. Just random fluctuations. The mpg readout is cool, but it is NOT accurate at all.
The only two reasons I leave it in my truck are, 1-cause I bought it... 2- I really like the IAT reading. It correlates exactly to outside air temp. (when moving) I wonder when we're getting our "beta test discount" back....
Well, I guess I'm in a bad mood. Don't know why I came here. I guess I was just looking for somebody to talk to. I really am pissed at edge though. I figured if I just backed off for a while, they'd work everything out, but I guess not. Now I know everybody is gonna rant and rave about how good the troyer is, and how I should try it. Well, I learnt my lesson with this tuner and I'm not gonna buy another one. If Mr. Troyer wants to give me one to subjectively compare, well, I'll think about it. But I'm not paying a cent for any more tuners.
Oh, and I topped out my truck the other day at 106mph (according to the edge, the needle was pointing as far down as it would go) on the tow tune, and that pissed me off. It would go that fast before I put the tuner in.
One other thing I forgot to mention. My truck is burning less and less oil. Now that correlates exactly to when I got the edge. So I can TRUTHFULLY say that it is helping my oil burning problem. Ha Ha. Seriously though......
I'm really broke now. College is SO expensive. I have used up all my money, and that's probably why I'm so grumpy... So the edge is probably better than I'm letting on... There's times when I really like it, but it's only when I'm on level 3. Other than that, it's just an expensive dash ornament, with a temperature guage.
I never come on this site anymore, because I don't have time. I am always in class or studying, and that irritates me. I learned a lot here, and I used to laugh my head off at some of the crazy responses to posts. I was hoping to see Neal's truck finished, but oh well. I'm still working on my 8.3L C-series build up, but money is non-existant, so nothing's happening. I have 12,000 miles on john deere oil filters, and I have to say that I'll never use another brand.
Oh well, I'm out of things to say. I'm tired, and I have to get up early. Ya'll keep em' straight for me.

And here we thought you was a leader all this time!
Why don't you retune the shift sked to cool off the shifting?
It's says you can do that on page 18 of the manuel.
I do have to agree that their handling of this venture leaves something to be desired and have mentioned it a couple times in e-mails to try and help everyone out..
I have gotten responses ranging from the website was being moverd, to MSD buying the company, to e-mails going to other places and apoligies but nothing seems to improve.
I never make it a habit of continuingly coming on this thread to keep complaining but I am dissappointed that Rob has not kept an information flow and avoided this deterioration of public relations unless the company has made it very hard for him to do so.
If it were my company I would have never come on a board like this and do product testing in this manner and leave myself open to such a situation. It's hard enough to have it all go well with any product all the time as it is.
I mentioned as much in an early post.
I think the product can be good if they will finish the job they ask us to help with and provide more tuning info so the less educated can understand what to do and how it works with the custom tuning changes that can be made.
Certinaly this is not for everybody if they won't take an interest and try to learn.
Good luck and get them peanuts in.

I have a list of all the major PCM program lines that are usually altered in tuning so can relate to some of the tuning problems that occurr at different times.
But no way to do anything with the info without the software and hardware.
So it's nice to at least understand what is done.
Anyone that is in the tuner or chip biz has to work with the same program lines so the only difference between tuners is what parameters are set in the program lines and how much work has been put into it to insure a 'safe tune' for general use.
Any changes from a safe tune to get the most performance becomes the responsbility of the owner. Some people will not know when to far is to far and break the motor/trans in some fashion over time. It's called play and pay.

The product is nice even though it is lacking in some of it's promises (trans temp) Try to come back around when you can Chester, never know what can happen around here!
I called Tech Support yesterday to see if they could fix my lockup problem...said to update it, and retune. Still didn't fix it.
I've sent Rob 4 emails about the problem in the past two weeks, and haven't gotten a reply yet. I love my Edge, got a solid 15.5 MPG running 75 - 85 MPH on the highway with a little tooling around town and a little hot rodding. All of that was on Level 3 running 91 or 92 (I forgot) octane gas.

yeah looks like am screwed at ever getting my money back not a peep from Rob yet but R1Jester gets an answer in an hour
Well we found out my wife is pregnant so I could use the $139 in fees and tow but looks like that money is down the toilet cause I won't replug the thing in my truck........don't know what will break next.
I promise this to be my last post complaining 1) because it doesn't do any good and 2) I really like this board and want to positive.

Congrats on the little one!
I guess I got lucky with Rob answering, I usually put a very eye catching Subject line in my emails so I don't know if that helps. What happened with your truck that needed to get towed? Did you have a problem with a stock rewrite, or is this another issue?

I find it very hard to test a product that has never worked since I owned it, I sure hope some of you who got it to work gave Rob real good feedback so they could "adjust" it. Went and looked at the website and did some pricing and between what I paid for the tester and the $139 bill that I seem to have gotten stuck with to fix my truck I could have just bought a final version...........which from what I understand still doesn't totally work correctly.
Bottom line I signed up to be a tester, never got to test the product cause it hasn't ever worked so I guess my official stance after being a beta tester which is what I signed up to be would be............."be very careful on this one fellas"

I suggest you call their tech line, tell them what is happening, and tell them you want a new unit. Their tech support, not related to beta, has been excellent.
