Thumbs up Thanks Mike! You ROCK!

We all appreciate your concern about this, we really do. If I had a team you would be right on top of it.

Thanks, Hamradio (Larry)

Hi 3-valve,

No, I would not get rid of the Airaid for the Air Force One on the 5.4 3V F-150 - the Airaid intake is a great intake kit for the newer 5.4 3V F-150's and so I'd just keep it, as there's not enough additional gain from the AF1 on the 5.4 3V to warrant making that change.

With regard to replacing the 1714 tuner with our Troyer Performance *custom* tuning - now that's a harder call. The 1714 does do a great job, it's the best "standard" tuning device on the market. But we do get enough additional performance gain in terms of overall driveability, 0-60 & 1/4 mile times in our *custom* tuning that if it were me, that is probably what I would opt for - but then you have to also keep in mind, I'm a motorhead who always wants the best possible PCM calibration, and I'm really not talking about spending *my* money, we're talking about you spending more of *your* money!! So it's easy for me to say "sure, go ahead and pay us for a custom tune," but you might be happy with what you already have.

The bottom line is, if you are *happy* with what you have, then just keep what you have got - it's not like you are going to get DOUBLE the power gain with our custom tuning over what the 1714 does at the rear wheels for the 2004 5.4 3V F-150, I don't want you to think that. For me personally, I prefer our custom tuning, but then, I'm a tuner, so I always tend to think in terms of doing whatever it takes to get a better PCM calibration regardless of cost. If you do decide that you want the ultimate in tuning, then you should easily be able to sell that 1714 here on the F-150 Online free Classified Ads, and then use those proceeds to help offset some of the cost of having us do the *custom* tuning.

On the other hand, if you are happy with the 1714, then you might want to think about just keeping it - at least for now - and putting that same money towards *another* performance modification to get further power gains in a different area, like a cat-back exhaust, or our electric fan kit, underdrive pulleys, etc. That's another option to think about.

Sorry if I made this even harder for you to decide, I hope that info helps a bit!

Hi Thumper38,

Thanks for your post -

I have to mention that it's against the rules of F-150 Online for us to discuss specific product pricing here - and, you'll be happy to know that as a registered member of F-150 Online, you also get special pricing on our Troyer Performance tuning products. So for both of those reasons, you'll need to please give us a quick call at our number listed below when you get a chance to go over those specific costs & the various options with you - and thanks in advance for your understanding on that, it's greatly appreciated!

Received my Xcalibrator last week. My wife had called me at work and told me I had a package from Troyer Performance. Needless to say the rest of the day took forever before I could get home.

As RP mentioned, it was packaged well and included great information and instructions. I was a little concerned when looking at what tunes came programmed on the Xcalibrator. The three listed were 87 tow, 93 perf., and 93 tow.

I thought I had ordered 87 perf., 93 perf. and 93 tow. I called and spoke with Crystal. She was very helpful and dug out my paperwork and went over it with me. Long story short, I called and changed the tune configuration from when I originally ordered it. When I changed the configuration I wasn't clear on what changes I wanted and left the impression that I wanted what was shipped. Certainally understandable, I have been known to be a little vague.

Crystal went over the differences between the tow and the perf. tunes and advised that some people couldn't tell the difference between the two. Also after giving her some further information it turns out this application would work out better for me anyway.

After reading the directions the install of the tune was very easy. It took about 15 minutes just as the directions said it would. Right away I could notice a difference. No more lag! When I stepped on the gas my truck went. Seemed to accelerate quicker and the shifts were slightly firmer under WOT. Apparently the shifts are firmer with a perf. tune installed, I'll find out soon.

I've been pleased with the way my truck is performing and look forward to installing the 93 perf. tune. Which brings up a question. How far down do I need to run the gas tank? Right now I've got about 1/4 of a tank. Do I have to get it down until the low fuel warning comes on before dumping 93 octane into it?

When I first started reading all the testimonials about the Xcalibrator I was a little skeptical. I found it hard to believe how plugging something into a truck could make that big of a difference. Well I'm a skeptic no longer, and want to thank Troyer Performance for a quality product and great customer service .

I got my tank to about 1/8 tank then put 93 octane in and drive it for about 30 miles. I then switched from 87 perf to 93 perf and was very impressed. I didn't notice any problems. Hope this helps.

I received my Xcalibrater last week and noticed improvements in throttle response and firmer shifting right away. Now if I could only keep my foot from going to the floor everytime. I'm running the 87 max performance tune now and will try the 91 max performance in a month or so. Thanks to Troyer Performance for wonderful customer service. I look forward to getting more mods in the future.

Hi Everyone, thanks for your posts!

Fr jHogan - whenever you are going from a lower octane tune to a higher octane tune (say, going from an 87 octane to a premium gas tune), we recommend running the current tank of fuel down until the low fuel just lights up - then just as soon as it lights up, fill up the tank with premium, and then you can immediately load in the premium gas tuning.

We prefer to sue that method as it runs out as much of the lower octane fuel as can possibly be done without running the rick of running out of gas - when the low fuel light first comes on, you still have 4+ gallons of fuel left in the system at that point, so virtually anyone can still make it to their favorite gas station to load up with premium. This also allows for the least possible amount f dilution of the incoming premium fuel, so that you get the best results as soon as possible when upgrading the tune.

So in general, try to run it down until the low fuel light first comes on,and then fill it up with premium, and then you can immediately install the premium gas tuning and that is what will work the best for you.

Have fun!

Hi 3valve,
Having been in the same shoes that you are in just a short time ago, I opted for the custom tuning. Man, was I ever glad I did. Not to knock the 1714 in any way, but Troyer's tuning is in a whole different class. It gives you instant throttle response, shifts are more decisive (for lack of a better word to describe them), and it added power across the board.
I installed the Airaid a short time ago, and I'm still very happy with it. The only way it would come off is if I found a clump of money to supercharge.(don't see that happening though).
That's just my 2 centavos. ...Kevin

Why of course it does! HEHE There's always somebody who doens't know better to buy something like that. Of course that depends on your definition of old and young! I'd probably give said "old man" or "kid" a bargain on the 1714.
