Another Quality Job by Troyer Performance
I tell ya what, hearing all you rant and rave over the tune makes me crazy. I just ordered one and have to modify the fuel system to accomodate it since I have other mods that the fuel system won't support. Mike Troyer was a great help over the phone and pointed me in the right direction. I highly recommend him to anyone and everyone that wants a vehicle modified or just tuned. Hats off to everyone over at Troyer Performance and can't wait to see the results of the tune and the windshield banner, so I can do some advertising for ya. Thanks again.
Hey brbsta ,
Sorry this took so long. It looks like jpdadeo , covered most of the times to switch back and forth . I'm not real good at it but have done the install tune thing 3 times. And I would say that those times he listed are close to mine . Main thing is to let it complete the install . And I think you will be smileing along with some of the rest of us when you do . I got an 89 octane preformance , 93 octane prefromance and the 93 octane Tow compatable
. I figure to run the 89 and up gas " As long as I can get it " more prefomance then 87 octane and that is what I was hoping for by going to the tuner . Buy having 2 preformance tunes. I can when not towing get better driveablity with a good chance of being able to get either the 89 or the 93 grade of gas most places anyway . And I would tow with 93 for the added beniftis that comes with the 93 octane . If for some reason 93 octane wasn't available , and I needed to tow then I can use the stock tuning in a pinch . I have towed with it and it is better then not being able to tow. If 87 octane is all I could get for sme reason like in a small town 1 gas station regular is all we got . But if figure to run the 93 tow most of the summer when I'm fishing . If we are going to take the truck and leave town with out the boat Iwill switch to preformance tune . For best Driveablity and MPG .
Hope this wasn't to long to read . I am enjoying the way the truck drives . Really wish I would have called and talked to Mike a long time back . I know I have a friend how likes what my truck is doing now and I think he will be talking to mike shortly !!

Eyeman, thats for the reply that is exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like I have to get it. Already called once was going to order it but they were closed at 5. Now I keep asking myself if I really want to always burn high octane fuels when regular is already 2.35$/gal. It would about cost 85$ to fill her up and i dont know if im ready for that.
Hi Brbsta,
Know where your at in the thought process. I've already been there .The price of fuel less then a week ,after my purchase. Is up over 20 cents here !!! And the whole thing does sound pretty steep . And it is. But the differance between regular and Premium , or 87 to 93 is normally 20 cents Here !!!!! So with most of my fills being 1/2 to 3/4 of a tank , I try and run the top half of the tank . So I fhgure 15 to 21 maybe 22 gals . So I figured 22 gals X 0.20 = 4.40 versus the 22 gals X 2.55 = 56.10 , not quite a scary that way !!!! The 56.10 doesn't please me, but if you think about it , neither does 22 gals X 2.35 = 51.70 . And I have had 2 partical fills at over 50.00 already . I still think in less then a week of the 93 octane I'm going to stick with it . With the better preformance potential i'm already convinced of that comes with the 93 octane gas . I think the figure is more BTU's per gal , any way. I am hoping to get a better running truck . And if I keep my foot out of it! AN increase in MPG . Alot of guys do get some increase if that would happen and I will know in a month or so I should think . Then with both of those things to help off set the 20 cent thing . I think the 4.40 might be good investment in towablity / Drivablity .
Call l and talk to Mike or Anita they both mentioned
that there is a differance in gas and and so does there paper work "HINTS " that come with the tuner. They also talk BTU's, and the differance in gas like differance in 93 octane from 1 station to the next . Of course a custom 87 tune is an option and I haven't run my truck with one of those. But based on what I seen with MY tunes so far I am sure it would be improvment over stock . How much would be a good thing to talk to The staff at Troyers about it . I am trying to keep my mind on that fact that there is a word Preformance , after Troyer . That is what the tuner is suppsed to do is to make the truck preform better
. Good Luck on your choices what ever they are . Talk to them they make alot of the questions I had alot easier

Eyeman's post is right on the money - it doesn't take anything like $85 to fill the tank of an '04 & up 54 3V F-150 - sounds like somebody either doesn't own the vehicle yet, or perhaps just isn't paying any attention to what they actually pay for gas - or maybe lives outside the US, where gas prices can be high enough eto make thost figures a potential reality.
I grew up in Europe, for example, wheere in the early 60's gas wqs already $2 a gallon when it was 19 cents a gallon in tghe US - other countries have far higher taxation on their fuels thanhj we do here inh the US
By the way, brbsta - we don't close at 5, it's 6 pm Eastern - however, from Tuesday thru today, a number of us are out of the office working on an R&D project, so for those 4 days, yes, the office is closing at 5. But all you need to do is simply listen to the automated attendant, which allows you to leave a message so your call can easily be returned.

Well... I`ve FINALLY gotten a chance to post the awesome results of my experience with my new XCalibrator! First of all, many thanx to Mike,Crystal & crew for their help and commitment to making my experience painless. Secondly....... Damn is my truck more responsive!!!!When it hit second gear, it pasted me back in my seat!!! I`ve still got about 200 mi. to go on the learning curve, but I`ve already seen a 2 MPG increase in fuel mileage, not to mention the acceleration increase!! And that`s just with the 87 performance tune!! My buddy is a mechanic, and asked me where I got it,so I gave him Mike`s name & number for references. He`s got a few clients who asked about performance upgrades and now he`s got something to tell them! Well, that`s all for now.... I`m going for a ride!!
Hi Devsdude,
Thanks for your post - glad to hear you're enjoying our custom tuning!
I remember seeing "devsdude" on a set of custom program worksheets for custom tuning I was working on recently - if you like our 87 octane tuning, you are probably going to LOVE our premium gas tuning with it's even larger power gains.
By the way - thanks for the data on your fuel mileage improvement - getting another 2 mpg on our 87 octane tuning is on the high side of what we normally see reported, so I'm very glad to hear that. Usually we tend to see results more like about 1.0 MPG on the 87 octane tuning, and then maybe 1.5-2.0 MPG on the premium gas tuning - when vehicle owners can keep their foot out of the firewall, that is.
But that also depends a bit on each individual vehicle's factory strategy, too - some of them we make very nice mpg gains on even on 87 octane fuel, so yours must be one of them. We're actually not trying to specifically raise fuel mileage, that just tends to be a nice by-product of our performance tuning, is the reality of it in most cases - in other words, I can't promise everyone they'll get another 2 mpg, only that most of our customers generally *do* see some improvement in mpg with our custom performance tuning.
Thanks again for your post, & have fun!

Received my xcal last week, so far the 87 perf tune has changed the truck quite a bit, it accelerate quicker and the shifting is firm, when I run out of this gas, will try the 93 perf tune. Have recommended Troyer Performance and the xcal to several friends, thanks Mike and company.
HI BEW119,
Excellent, glad to hear you are enjoying your new custom tuning!
It's very kind of you to refer your friends to us, thanks ever so much for your consideration, and for your post here, too.
Have fun,

Mike and crew, when are we going to see some window stickers? Sure would go a long way on promotions. Don't recall how many times I've run through your URL for someone looking at my truck.
How about voting with me guys! How many of you want a Troyer Performance window sticker?? I vote one for me .

I second that ;-))
Hi.
Yup - what HamRadio said.
To bridge the gap, I 'installed' an 'A'-sized copy of the TP website homepage here in my lab. Right next to same size pix of my truck and the piggy bank reserved for the purpose ;-).
Generates *lots* of inquiries. Too bad most of the propeller heads around here (me excluded, thank-you very much), drive Civics or Corollas and have not a clue...
As for the gas price conundrum... if I had to pay retail for Sunoco 94 locally: $1.10/litre x 4.54 x 25 = $123.75 CDN to fill up.
Jeez.. that's like 3 cases of MGD ( which us oh-so-fortunate Canucks have the privilege of paying $41/case ).
Thank goodness for corporate gas and my senior butt-licker subsidy ;-)). It's no wonder I didn't ask Mike to do a '94 Octane max perf' tune!
Hey, Maybe a Civic isn't such a bad idea after all? Nah... ;-))
Cheers

Hi Ham, MGDFan, etc.,
Nobody is more anxious than us for the stickers & windshield banners, etc., trust me............
As of yesterday, the local graphics company we're using called Anita saying they had some kind of hardware or software problem - I don't remember exactly what their problem was, Anita's handling it.
Everyone here at TP is telling me to have patience, but I confess I'm just about out of patience on this. It was a month or so ago when we took the vehicles over there - we provided them with vehicles both from the 1997-2003 body style & from the 2004 & up F-150 body styles. The 2004 & up F-150's of course are the "special" issue, as they have the F-150 logo in the middle of the windshield up top in a drop-down style that we need to incorporate in the banner - which makes those banners a real pain, and complicates the "regular" window stickers (the smaller stickers), too, as we want them to match, hopefully - provided that can be done and look good. We have to have a windshield banner & matching sticker for the 1997-2003 trucks, and another matching set for the 2004 & up F-150's, etc.
So this local company has already done those measurements, that was done when we took the vehicles to them, and then they next needed a template made - then that is where they apparently had some kind of hardware/software problem, from what they told Anita yesterday (Tuesday 4/26/05). They're very nice people at this local company, and we want this to work out thru them, but it does need to happen soon, too.................................
Thanks for your patience on this - hopefully this local company will get the darn things done and done right, and do that very soon. If that doesn't happen quickly (like within the next 2-3 weeks at most, we'll need to get another company to work on this, someone who can execute, as it's gotta get done.
(Gee, does it sound like we're at least as tired of waiting as you all are? Darn right we are!)
As soon as we have more info, we'll let everyone know - as soon as these things are done, we'll be emailing all our customers that we have email addresses for, putting it up on our web site and announcing here, too.......................

Have the 1714, but
Hey Mike, I have the 1714 already. Would it be worth my time to try and sell it to some kid or old man who wants some more power? Or can you say in your position? Also the same story with the airraid intake. Would this be worth my trouble to try and get an AF1? Any opinions out there? I know what I would do if I was starting over.
What is the cost of the custom tune? or what ever you need?

WOW, what a review - we feel the same way, but it's what the vehicle owner thinks that matters. Thanks, to say the least!
You have a *very* special limited-edition F-150 there, a King Ranch. The Lariat's & FX4's are incredible, but the King Ranch edition takes the F-150 even further (if that's possible) - it's an amazing vehicle and I've love to have one - maybe next time.
The King Ranch is of course, all about the famous King Ranch down in Texas - BIG, beautiful, expensive, expansive, and the most luxurious and comfortable F-150 ever made. With their sheer size & weight, they can certainly use some help in the performance department.
I'm glad your enjoying our custom tuning, Brad - your review was very kind, we're just tickled pink we were able to make you happy, & can't thank you enough for your gracious post.
I'd also like to thank you for your information & knowledge on the detailing & vehicle care side of things when we spoke on the phone a couple weeks or so ago - your experience & knowledge in that arena is at least as thorough as ours is on the performance side - Steve really picked a winner to handle the Moderation of those areas of F-150 Online! I was very impressed with your credentials & bona fides, so to speak - I have a feeling you & I will be talking more in the future on that subject (read: I'll probably bother you at some point now & again).
Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you, whether it's performance-related or not - always happy to help those who help to bring us this wonderful web site!
