Another Quality Job by Troyer Performance

As a Senior Member and Moderator here at f150online.com, it's nearly impossible to go a single day without reading a number of rave reports about the service and performance gains that someone has achieved from the folks at Troyer Performance. If you're like me, you take note.... and take note... and take note... to the point that you feel like you HAVE TO LEARN exactly what these folks are speaking of...

With that mentality, and the mentality that I wanted to get better throttle performance and overall performance out of my new 05' King Ranch, I decided to see what all the hub-ub was about. I called Troyer and spoke with Anita Troyer for several minutes and began to immediately realize what everyone was talking about.

This first phone call was just to 'test the waters' and get some 'skimmed' information to help me decide if I wanted to take the plunge on getting the truck tuned. A second phone call was made a couple of weeks later which landed at the desk of Mike Troyer. After about an hour of conversation (including me having to call back because my cell phone died), I felt like I'd grown up with this guy and our kids had played together. Further, I learned more about tuning and the overall performance gains that are were available on the table than I ever thought I would. Even better, as a 'non-motorhead', it was explained in language that I could understand and only tidbits of jargon were used. All in all, Mike's communication skills were second to none. This further eased my tension about tuning my truck.

With that phone call behind me, I knew it was time. I placed my order with Troyer and completed my tune sheets and waited patiently. My XCALIBRATOR arrived yesterday in very sturdy packaging which was well sealed and in great condition. UPS apparently didn't decide to play pitch and catch with this one!

Upon opening the box, I was further surprised that there were pages (multiples) of helpful hints, instructions, commentation, and suggestive literature to read to further ease my tension about tuning the truck. Obviously, I knew what needed to be done next...

After reading everything that was in the box (twice actually), I proceeded to plug in and go... About 15 minutes later, the program was in and I was ready to take it for her first spin (87 Performance tune on Shell fuel)...

TWO WORDS -- HOLY CRAP! (and I'd probably use other words here if I weren't a moderator...)

Who did this to my truck and, even better, what the heck did they do with my old truck! This thing is a totally different beast now! I'm OVERLY IMPRESSED with what I've been able to accomplish with Troyer Performance assisting... This is EXACTLY how I wanted my truck... EXACTLY!

You've heard this full-circle story now. The service, the time given to me as an individual customer, the overall performance gain, and even the packaging of the product shipped via UPS (aka: the details)...

You know guys, there are oodles of flavors of ice cream in any supermarket. You'll hear folks talk about certain ones over and over until you really think you need to buy a pint to see what it's all about. The custom tuning market is the same instance. The pint here is a custom tune for you and your driving habits/needs. The flavor is perfect and custom made for you. The company is Troyer Performance... There simply isn't any other company that will offer the full circle package at this level!

Kudos to all the fine folks at Troyer Performance. You couldn't have done any better if you had tried. You've made a customer for life.

Well RP, what took you so long?
Mike has tuned my 01 SCrew, my 01 Lightning, my 03 Cobra, and now my 04 SCrew. There is no one else out there that I would even consider using.
I have had the pleasure to spend a lot of time with Mike, Anita, and their staff during my visits to their business, and at the Bristol FFW event last year. From day one when I first met Mike and spent the day with him, data-logging my vehicle so he could optomize my tuning, I felt like we had known each other for years. He and his entire staff have actually become "family" to me. They are the most "genuine" people I have ever met.
Mikes attention to detail is extreme. One night at 10:30 PM my home phone rang and it was Mike. He told me that he had been going over the tuning data for my '03 Cobra, which he had completed and installed in the car a month earlier, and that he believed he had discovered some additional power that could be gained. Well needless to say within the next 48 hours I was in the car and Virginia bound. The 350 mile drive was well worth it.
With only a 4# lower pulley, a CAI, and his new found power I was able to go 11.60 @ 122 MPH. We ran this time with fewer modifications than Muscle Mustang and Fast Ford Magazine used to get their test vehicle into the 11.60's.
I look forward to seeing Mike, Anita, and his staff at the FFW events in Richmond and Bristol this summer. I may even take a road trip before these two events just to drop by and say hello.
Enjoy the new found power RP.......

Well said RockPick!

I too recently received my Xcalibrator tuner from Troyer's, and I am more than impressed. I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out with my tune. This is some of the best money that I have spent. Even though the tuner can be had elsewhere for cheaper, I would rather go to a reputable place and have the tune done right. Thanks Troyer's!

Oh and RockPick, if you think the 87 perf tune was nice, wait until you run that tank of gas down and fill up with 93, and install the 93 performance tune. HOLD ON!!!!! You are going to love it even more then, TRUST ME!

I totally agree with everything said above. Mike is the tune maestro that’s the bottom line.

Wow, good write-up! Makes me want to get one even sooner.

Does this mean you can pick the rpm area that you want boosted, or maybe I should just ask what a tune sheet is.

Hey RP - with your 87 tune, from a dead stop - plant your right foot into the floorboard... can you roast the rear tires? Go outside and check for me. THanks.

I ask since I'm really bummed with the 87 tune on the 1714... looking for better solutions. Or reply to the thread in the '04/5 forum!

Roast them off the truck? No. It's just too heavy of a 4x4 beast and with a LS rear end.... Bark them? Yes. Easily.

I'm really suprised that the 1714 didn't work for your Renault... I figured it'd turn the pinon gear into a projectile missle.

Well, like said, the 91+ tune was great. The hardest part was smashing the plug into Renualt's interface. After that the tune was a snap. My speed is 80mph off, but I can deal with that.

lame attempt at humor

However, a comparison of the two would be good info

I've been hearing good things about the Predator. I'm really interested since if I wanted, I can work with tuners for custom tunes as well, and it looks like they have better software to toy with the tunes on your own. Couple that with the code scanner & datalogger... well it sounds like a winner.

A guy on another site has already had both and says the Diablo produces more grunt down low, and the Superchips has a better shifting program. However, with the granular control you have over shifting with the Predator you can easily tailer the shifts to your liking.

I think an independant compar-o is going to be in order...
