Exclamation Does a chip void the warranty?

I'm thinking about getting a chip for my truck for my b-day in june. My question is, if I put a chip in my truck will it void the warranty? I've been told they can tell if you have messed with the trucks computer even if you set it back to normal. My dad wont let me do it if it voids the warranty because we got the 75,000 mile warranty. And if I do get one what is the best one to get for my '04 f-150 with the 5.4?

If the dealer wants to 'void the warranty', then they can use whatever excuse they want and their lawyers are better paid than your lawyers. So with that in mind, YES a chip can void certain portions of your powertrain warranty. This has been beaten to death and if you value a piece of paper more than your truck then don't ever buy any type of modification for it. Then you can keep your 'warranty' intact.

Oops, I just saw that it's your dad's truck, not yours. Forget about the tuner until you buy your own truck.

Get a Programmer. Just put it back to stock when you take it in for service.

If I were your dad, I'd get someone to program you a 55 mph max program Kevin

Talk to Mike Troyer over at Troyerperformance.com He can hook you up. He is the Master of tuning (to say the least).

You want the Xcalibrator (9300) and you want Mike (Troyer Performance) to set it up for you with three custom tunes. Your local dealership won’t be able to detect if you have it tuned or not if you change it back to the factory setting, which by the way takes only 5 minutes to do with the Xcalibrator. All you have to do if you’re worried about your service department trying to snoop into your business is get a couple of “drive cycles” back on the stock tune before you take it in for repair. A “drive cycle” consists of a cold start and then driven at operating temperature for approximately 20 min at varying speeds. The PCM (computer) only holds the most recent information and discards the old as new data is logged in. Oil changes and tire rotation visits won’t require you to switch tunes because they won’t be hooking up the diagnostic machine; only warranty work that would require them to hook up the machine.

Or you can just pull the chip off (takes 5 seconds) before you take it to the dealer if you don't go the programmer route.

No chip to pull off on the 2004/5 model. Just do as jpdadeo suggests and your all set. I keep my 9300 handy at all times. I always program to stock whenever I go in for anything at the dealer and also specify to the dealer to NEVER flash the stock program for updates until they talk to me. Reason is if they do, your 9300 will probably have to be sent in before it can do your pcm again. You would have to specify your new PCM code for your tuner (aka. Mike Troyer) to get things right again.

I keep within the speed limit 85% of the time. My dad knows most of the local cops and told them to let him know if they saw me speeding so I try really hard to drive the speed limit. Thanks for the info. and I will try to convince him to let me get the Xcalibrator. Does anyone have one in their 04-05 f-150? If so how much of a difference is it? What kind of HP and touque do you gain?

I got one and it’s totally transformed my truck. It made it quick and responsive in everyday “regular joe” driving conditions but when it comes time to hit the gas, the big heavy 04 Screw will Git-R-Done, big time.

My custom tunes are:
87-octane – Performance
93-octane – Tow-Preferred
93-octane – Max-Performance

I’ve tried all three tunes and they all ROCK, but the 93-octane Max-Performance is my favorite, the one I use 99% of the time.
