Clayed, then polished, and waxed with Meguiar's NXT. I would like to do a second coat while it is still contaminate free. Any recommendations? Something carnauba based perhaps?
I saw a post regarding Collonite being great for white rigs, so maybe use that instead?
LG recommends you don't do that. You could top LG with nxt, but not the other way around.
I mean, you could try. But they state it won't bond correctly doing it that way.
You could always wash the truck with dawn dish soap, that should strip the nxt. Then you could apply 2 coats of LG (easiest stuff in the world to work with, both application and removal) and then top with nxt.
I know that'll obviously be way more work. But would probably keep it protected all summer long.
White paint is something of my specialty and as others have said, I'd skip the NXT all together. It does look pretty decent, but it doesn't last at all.
Given that limitation, I'd either wait until the next time your truck is ready for a good detail, or remove the NXT with Dawn Dish Soap and start over.
So what would I recommend? My personal favorites include Menzerna Power Lock or Blackfire Wet Diamond for synthetics and / or Collonite 845 for a conventional wax. All of them are easy on / easy off and last quite well. You can put a layer of either of the synthetics I mentioned and leave them as is, or top either of them with the 845 for a slightly softer look than a synthetic alone. The synthetics will give you great service life all by themselves and the 845 will probably extend it just a bit.
I love the collinite. I have the liquid 845 (requires special prep to use) and the paste version - 476s. I have used it pretty much exclusively the past 3-4 years. Really happy with the longevity.
Sounds like you're on the right path. Next time, just forget the nxt. As I and 2stroked have said, that stuff just doesn't last. If left parked outside in the sun and rain, you might get a week or two of water beading, but that's it.
I tired over and over to like that stuff and applied it literally every way. No matter how thick or thin, no matter how many coats, it was gone in a week. If I washed the truck (with car wash soap) that also seemed to completely remove it.
Shame, cause nxt does look good. Try out some of the other recommendations. Or LG as I like. Doesn't seem too popular around here (it's an old school product) but I love it's ease of use, looks and longivity.
I always clay and add a coat of show car #7 glass before my first spring application. My truck is also white.
