That's what I got a few years ago and haven't had any problems with the pads. Although they're gettin worn out and the dog got a hold of a few of them so it's about time for new ones.

 

Same kit I bought that started me on the whole detailing thing. Great kit and I thought it was a reasonable price.

I also found Autogeek very nice to deal with and they shipped the stuff out to me pretty quick.

I personally wouldn't go with either of those kits. The 6.5" pads work, but smaller pads work better with the PC.

 

thanks guys, that link you have MRLSU2U seems like a good deal also. i see it has a cutting compound and finish polish. could i use those for a average "need a polish" paint? it has its normal water marks and some other imperfections, nothing drastic. then just buy my own wax?

 

You can absolutely use those for a need a polish paint job. While they aren't required (unless you see swirl marks light scratches, etc.) The meguiars 105 and 205 are widely used by guys on here. The 105 might be a little hard on your paint if it's defect free. I personally (assuming it's not defect free) would hit your vehicle with the 105 followed by the 205 and as a wax I would go with Zaino Z-2 (I apply 4 coats to my truck). I personally am a Zaino guy. Other guys on here might suggest you go with synthetic NXT 2.0.. If you did go with the zaino z-2 make sure you buy the z-6 spray detailer with it, you don't have to but I would suggest it. I don't like to mix different companies products. But that's just me. No harm could be done by say using the z-2 with meguiars quick detailer instead of z-6. Make sure you clay first! Someone else might be able to help shine a little more light on the subject. I've only been into *real* detail for a while now.

I agree. I also went with an Autogeek Kit when I got started and now the only 6.5 or larger pad I ever use with a DA is the red one for wax.

Smaller pads will give you more rpms (power) and flexibility so whatever kit you get if you are going to get serious...save time and additional shipping and get a smaller 3.5 backing plate and a few 4" pads.

The detailing Rabbit Hole is deep.

I think they might be too small, unless you also buy a smaller backing plate.
